October is the month of Pink!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, in case y’all haven’t realized just yet. This is a subject very close to my heart. While I was in high school, a friend started a school group that raised funds and awareness for cancer, and when I took over as president, for other causes as well.

Apart from being a female and wanting for everyone to have a chance for good health and survival, I know that the women in our lives are super duper important. John Mayer wrote a song called Daughters, where he sings about fathers and mothers being good to their daughters, because one day, they’ll be mothers too. Don’t get me wrong, I love men as well, but in an almost all female family, you start to get a little dizzy with the female power.

Please take a chance this month to speak to your doctor about check-ups and tests, or in the least do a self check on yourself. Remember to look beyond just your chest to check for abnormalities. You may think that looking for something is a bad omen because it’s as though you are inviting bad things to happen, but really, this is to better empower you to know when change happens, and to fix it quickly. Take a look at these sites for some more info: BreastCancer.org & the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. An educated woman is a healthier woman! A healthy & happy woman contributes to a happy & healthy family! Men – remember that you are not exempt from this and take care of yourself as well!

If you care to do a little helpful shopping this month though, there are various companies banding together with charities for the cause, so your money will always be well spent. Take a looksee through some of these, and let me know if you come across others that I forget to cover!

China Glaze Fall 09 Retro Diva – Let’s Cruise

Remember when I praised the new phenomenon of Twitter and told you how many companies are using it as a tool to reach out to each and every one of you? Well, if you haven’t smartened up and opened an account yet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for!

Case in point: China Glaze was having a daily giveaway of their Retro Diva nail polish collection, and luck would have it that I won on one of the days! Of course, as soon as it came I was excited to share with y’all.

Now this collection has two mini sub-collections. They are called “Let’s Cruise” and “Get Down Tonight.”

I decided to follow suit and separate the swatch posts into two as well, so that I don’t overdo it with the pictures.

Colors left to right:
Stroll, Thunderbird, Drive-In, Street Racing, Free Love, Cruisin’

Stroll

Stroll is such a gorgeous berry color. This made me think of raspberries so much that my stomach started to growl in response to my thoughts. The glitter in this polish is so hard to capture – but here was my attempt:

Can you see all those little flecks?

I have always been a fan of China Glaze for their smooth application and variety in colors. If you follow me on twitter, you will notice that a lot of my daily polish TwitPics feature them as well.

Also – these polishes are amazingly true to bottle color, check out the two here:

Thunderbird on left and Drive-In on right.

The only qualm I had with this collection was that it seemed more like a fall harvest and metallic color combo than it reminded me of Retro Glam – but you know what? I bet if I did some research I might just be wrong. So watch out for part two to see what happens and for more swatches from this collection!

What do you think of this collection?

This Is What I Call Fam!

So Miss B from Clumps of Mascara totally surprised me with a care package that made my entire week!! This package was extremely packed! When she asked me what she should send should she ever have something to send my way (sneaky!) I told her some nail polishes and new stuff was always welcome…

uh hello jackpot!

She sent me China Glaze (which I never tried) and e.l.f & Essie, along with a Nic Stick, she sent MAC eyeshadow! Organix Shampoo & Conditioner, Dental Burst wipes, EcoTools powder puffs, and so so so much more!!

I swapped the China Glaze polishes. This is Orange Knockout – this is with flash and shows the true color, however, it is very thin in application and would need to be mixed with something to make it look as if it is more than one coat. With three coats, it is still as thin as one, and looks a little malnourished, maybe I will ask Dr.Frankenpolish for help?

This was Avalanche and applied great. This is a photo without flash. I don’t know if I’m bold enough to rock this color, but I think some funky nail designs will make it more fun and yaya appropriate. 🙂

How happy was I? Boy oh boy!

But wouldn’t you be with something like this at your doorstep?!
