Fergie’s Pink Hope

MyOwnJudge - Fergie FFANYOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness month. That wasn’t news, right?

What used to be a hard job to promote and to educate has now become well known facts. The gentlemen battling it out on the football field as I munch on chips and dip and yell at the screen have pink gloves, sneaker soles, and everything else their Reebok and the rest of the sponsors thought of, including items you can bring home (scrubs, ornaments, bracelets; you name it – NFL shop has it).

Other brands and stores are overcome with pinkmania in support of the cause. It can be deduced that mankind is quite fond of the breast!

If you have a hard time choosing where you can allocate your funds best for optimal use, look no further than Fergie’s partnership with FFANY.

QVC‘s FFANY Shoes on Sale event starts on October 15th 7-10pm ET (this coming Friday), with soles for the giving soul. All shoes’ proceeds will go 100% to leading hospitals and research organizations, but better yet for you – they will be half off their retail price as well.

Fergie‘s Hope shoe from her Fall 2010 collection will be joining the crowd of the shoes donated to QVC for the cause, and will be selling for $45 (half off the original selling price).

How will you be supporting the cause?

Talk It Out Tuesday! Donate It!

We all know that this is the month of pink. I’ve posted previously about various companies that are partnering with research groups and fundraisers, such as Three Custom Color, PurpleLab, etc. But are you buying any of the items?

I like to participate in the walks by either sponsoring a participant, or participating myself (3 day Relay, Avon Walk, Race for the Cure, etc.) and raise money around the workplace for each time that I do. I also like to purchase the pins and bracelets that Payless sells for the cause each year, and just drop a dollar or two at fundraisers into the box. This year of course, I am looking at a plethora of items and am tempted to buy all.

But what about you? Are you buying anything?

As October continues…

PhotobucketAt the last Bloggin’ Beauts meet up, Breast Cancer Awareness month came up in conversation and it was agreed that the month of October has turned into more of a marketing ploy. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate to the highest degree what many of our favorite companies are doing by partnering with research organizations and the like, but you have to be careful where you shop for the cause.

A lot of companies will divulge how much of a percentage of the proceeds from a product goes to the actual cause. It’s a bit of a shame when products that cost hundreds of dollars donate $1 or $2 to charity from each product. On the one hand, it is still a step into more research, but on the other it seems just a bit wasteful. But never fear, there are lots of companies that make products specifically that give all the proceeds from a product to research, or partner with non-profit organizations that have the best ratio of spending to research (as in salaries vs. research funds, etc.). Check out these links to see accredited and “graded” charities (not just cancer-related):

I will continue to post a group of promotional products at a time while the month is going along, because pink is a great color, and y’all should find a good cause and buy just one thing. Won’t hurt right?

October is the month of Pink!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, in case y’all haven’t realized just yet. This is a subject very close to my heart. While I was in high school, a friend started a school group that raised funds and awareness for cancer, and when I took over as president, for other causes as well.

Apart from being a female and wanting for everyone to have a chance for good health and survival, I know that the women in our lives are super duper important. John Mayer wrote a song called Daughters, where he sings about fathers and mothers being good to their daughters, because one day, they’ll be mothers too. Don’t get me wrong, I love men as well, but in an almost all female family, you start to get a little dizzy with the female power.

Please take a chance this month to speak to your doctor about check-ups and tests, or in the least do a self check on yourself. Remember to look beyond just your chest to check for abnormalities. You may think that looking for something is a bad omen because it’s as though you are inviting bad things to happen, but really, this is to better empower you to know when change happens, and to fix it quickly. Take a look at these sites for some more info: BreastCancer.org & the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. An educated woman is a healthier woman! A healthy & happy woman contributes to a happy & healthy family! Men – remember that you are not exempt from this and take care of yourself as well!

If you care to do a little helpful shopping this month though, there are various companies banding together with charities for the cause, so your money will always be well spent. Take a looksee through some of these, and let me know if you come across others that I forget to cover!
