Sonia Kashuk Polish

MyOwnJudgeReading other sites always leads to unnecessary spending and lusting. Such was the case when I came across Vampy Varnish posting about Sonia Kashuk polishes. It turns out, I was so excited that I ended up getting the same colors during my Target trip.

The multi colored fuzz is my new scarf that I made. I have taken to learning how to crochet and have mastered three stitches (and two scarves) so far. By the end of next year, hopefully I’ll have limitless stitches and handmade items!

Lipstick Organization

Forgive me the length of time it took to gather myself mentally and health-wise, but that is one of the downsides of being the sole person behind a site – there is no one to pick up slack on off days. My cold is all gone, and I’m back in business!MyOwnJudgeI’ve been a bit obsessed recently with an image from the past. Backstage at the Spring/Summer 2011 Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week Argentina Group Show, I saw a makeup artist organize their lipsticks in a small palette reminiscent of an empty nail tip box, or paint palette without dividers.

The ease of use coupled with the aesthetic greatness had me reeling ever since. I wanted the same for myself, but with more dividers between each color, to prevent losing it after mixing colors at the edges too often. I haven’t had luck – even with bead organizers, the containers are too tall or too wide, and end up being more bulky than comfortable, which was one of the original goals. My search is ongoing for that perfect product, but the search did find other clever ways to organize though.

You can:
Melt your lipsticks down into small containers and store them in VHS boxes (video)
Make an organizer for the actual lipsticks(video 1 video 2)
Melt into an empty lip palette (video)
You can even use a shotgun shell container (interesting!)
Add tabs to the front of lipsticks and swatch (genius!)
Or… into small jars (video)
MyOwnJudgeAnother shot from backstage at the show, this time with skincare. This is much more easier to accomplish – just get a palette and smush cream products in.

I’m still holding out for that perfect container. Until then, share your experience, how do you organize lip products?

Think It Means I Love You..

Everytime I think I can safely go on a Rihanna hiatus, I have another reason to repeat her name. That’s a killer marketing and PR team for ya.

The singer has a video out for Te Amo. The video is super racy and not showing any signs of going back to the tame and sweet. It’s a perfect video to rev up your wardrobe though and break out of the bulky layers and cozy knits. Look for lace, leather, and if you can’t stray until about April or so, break out a killer red or orange lip.

Lacoste Legends

The Lacoste Legends launched in New York. check out the designs – I’m elated about the bright colors – the weather does not affect my neon tendencies and all the similar brights.

Do you change your color palettes seasonally?

Flowers flowers and more flowers

MyOwnJudgeSelf proclaimed rebel flower, Rihanna had images of her fresh perfume debut earlier this week. The scent, Reb’l Fleur will be hitting shelves nationwide later in the year (or early next year rather). With so many big names lending a hand to the perfume industry, I’m surprised Riri hasn’t done this sooner.

p.s. I’ve been a little tied up with the holidays and taking care of bills and such on my end, so excuse the pauses. MOJ will be back to it’s regular scheduling by the 25th!

The Fashion Show and Tresemme – Episode 5

The Fashion Show - BravoI’ve been pretty remiss with covering The Fashion Show. Sometimes other material bumps it out of place, and other times, I procrastinate and wait way too long (I’m trying to get out of that bad habit!!).

The fifth episode gave lots of reasons to discuss. To veer off topic for a second, I must say the show has turned me into a follower. In the beginning I was convinced it was a complete copycat of Project Runway, but since then, I’ve noticed that though the theme and inspiration is similar, that overall this competition handles it differently. My favorite part is when the teams make a collection by each episode end.

The winning design in this past episode was an asymmetrical ruffle floor length dress in a perfectly blue as night sky shade. The cherry on top was the hair. Tresemme head stylist Jeanie Syfu created a match to the dress, sculpting a smooth and sleek style (also asymmetric). Check out which products made the look, and tell me what you thought of the episode!

The Secret Ingredient

MyOwnJudgeOftentimes, when I run around the house trying to make it to places on time, the last thing I have time for is makeup. I also tend to get carried away with makeup if I have no purpose, so I just let my skin breathe. Some moisturizer and SPF, and some lip gloss. Ready. That was then.

My building has a mirrored lobby and it serves as a great checkpoint before heading out into the streets, as well as a double check of how it all ended when I’m coming back in. The biggest problem I’ve encountered is the dance that my eyebrows like to do. They’ll be brushed and behaving before I leave, and at some point (because I surely don’t know when) they start pointing in every which direction, as if they all operate to a separate compass, independent from the other.

For a while, my secret to static brows was hairspray. I would take a disposable eyebrow/mascara brush and place it centimeters away from the hairspray nozzle. Then I’d give the aerosol a whirl. Once on, I’d brush my eyebrows to the perfect position. When I had no brushes or spools, I would spray on my finger and work my magic with my digits. Then I started reminiscing about the days that I was the proud owner of clear mascaras and brow gels. Was I really happy with letting all this hair spray just sit on my face? My occasional paranoia would hit and I would start envisioning the spray leaking down and burning my eyes in the rain or during a heavy workout.

The return to sanity was having a clear gel in my life again. Ones like the Ardell Brow Sculpting Gel come in a small tube and are multifunctional. The clear gel can tame a brow set on dancing the night away, as well as coat lashes. When on lashes, the gel separates and gives a wet look, brightening the face a bit. It usually looks as though you splashed water on your face and dried everything by the lashes. The gel also sets the lashes to be curled and separated, without smudging or being weighed down. (Plus – if you happen to be a crybaby like me and let go of the waterworks while watching kid movies, it wouldn’t hurt to have something clear mix in, instead of blobs of brown and black from mascaras). When I have shoots, I also like to use clear gel on males to tame their sideburns and facial hair.

What’s your secret ingredient?

Take My Nails to Broadway

MyOwnJudgeChanging colors are what brought me to the Broadway Nails brand, and after one experience is a success, it is always wise to check out what else the company has to offer you and let the friendship develop. (p.s. speaking of friendship – if you check out the brand on Facebook and hit ‘Like’ – or Twitter, and they’ll give you a coupon!)

A fresh take on the french tip, I chose a silver accented design with rhinestones thrown in for good measure (from the divine collection – this one is called ‘dreamy’). A perfect prelude for a holiday party.

My first experience with the color changing nails had me try on both the adult version, and the one marketed more towards younger consumers. The changing tip design was for adults, whereas the polka dots was aimed more to the tween crowd (though I love my fair share of polka dots). The latter set was a bit narrower for the nails, and though cute, didn’t look seamless by the end of the application (the first – color changing tips – was great in fit). The short length I chose this time proved no problem in the width or length of my nails. Keep in mind though, there are folks with longer nails who might have trouble with this size and may need to opt for a longer design.

MyOwnJudgePretty simple. Check out the site for more application tips and tricks.
MyOwnJudgeA complaint I had when trying these the first time was the packaging for the glue ended up as a mess while attempting to open it. I either missed the memo then, or it was fixed by now, because it had a simple and easy twist off perforation at the time. This saved mucho time, and maintained the packaging.MyOwnJudgeThe design is super cute without being too sweet. Great for work, with just enough attitude for the holiday party and beyond.MyOwnJudgeThe designs came out great. The most common question? I didn’t have that many bubbles under the nails either. I think the cream color of the nail has some kind of frosting from the inside to prevent it from looking so ghastly – or I’m just babbling :).MyOwnJudgeThe nails were longer than I have ever grown my own to be, so it was a fun time pretending these were what I had. Classmates and coworkers seemed to have been convinced I had acrylic nails done, and who was I to correct them?

When was the last time you rocked faux nails?

Eye Am Powder Puff

MyOwnJudgeSelena Gomez has joined the ranks of all the celebs with the powder snafus. She had some extra white powder under her eyes at the 2010 Style Awards in New York this past Sunday. Generally, powder is used under the eyes to catch eyeshadow fallout and to add a lighter shade to under the eyes. When done with all makeup, the powder is usually brushed away.

My terrible experiences with makeup application have taught me to do the eyes first and then use a makeup remover wipes to clear up the mess and continue with the rest of the face. If you choose to do powder, don’t just settle at brushing it away. Use a foundation sponge to press in some of your regular color (since the powder is a lighter shade), the lightness of the powder will blend with your shade and have a median shade.

Not into the equations and mixing colors? Take a photo with flash right before you leave. If you can, change the settings to be a brighter flash than usual to find all the errors. When I do that, I find that all my magical work with bronzer and blush is unseen, and I usually swipe on an extra layer or two.
