Green Room Glossy

MOJ SmashboxWhen I was at the Supima Design Competition Fashion Show, I was able to snag a goodie bag. In it was a tee made of supreme cotton and a lovely green gloss. What? No, not the color green. 😉

The gloss is described as a dual powered gloss. Fancy right? It has color on the inside of the tube and gloss on the outside. It’s just like applying lip gloss and then a shiny layer on top without having to mix colors, mess around with textures, etc.

From the site:

This environmentally-friendly gloss has luminous color on the inside and super shiny clear gloss on the outside. The innovative 2 in 1 tube is recyclable so it’s beauty you can feel good about! Contains Moringa Seed Extract for added healthy-skin benefits. With the purchase of every GREEN ROOM product, a Moringa tree will be planted in a developing country by Trees for the Future. The Moringa or “Miracle Tree” is a powerhouse of nutritional value and provides a self-renewing food source for people in need. More trees also mean less soil erosion and cleaner air and water for a greener future. All GREEN ROOM packaging is biodegradable or recyclable and all products are made with environmentally-friendly formulas.”

It has a sponge-y applicator. Do you guys like these? I prefer the plastic diagonal tipped ones, but this one didn’t give me trouble, so I’m okay with it (at least for now).

And now for the color payout:

On the left the photo is taken with flash and on the right without. This was one swipe. This gloss shade is Azalea. The other two are Marigold and Lily. Currently, the glosses are on sale from $18 down to $10 on the site.

How’d it look?

Again, the pictures are with flash on the left, and no flash on the right.

The verdict?
I know Smashbox to be pretty good on quality and color payout, so it’s not that I was skeptical. But a girl can only see so many glosses before she gets a bit cynical. This one is really smooth on the lips and tastes (I know I’m not the only one that checks the taste of her glosses!) and smells like a Caramel candy – you know… those chewy squares? The gloss is not sticky, and the shimmer is very subtle. The only problem I have is with the packaging. You can’t reapply gloss over and over for an eye blinding gloss application because everytime you add more than needed, the sponge puts you in your place.

But you know what? That’s not that much of a bad thing. Great for travel, work, and Valentine’s Day kises. 🙂

Do you have a favorite Smashbox product? Favorite gloss at the moment?

Fall Makeup for 2009

PhotobucketIn the midst of all this Fashion Week madness, one can’t deny the change in the air. The streets aren’t as warm anymore, there are more sleeved fashions paraded about town, and scarves are coming out.

To me, scarves are the epitome of Fall and colder weather in general. When scarves came out as a trend for summer as well, you could find me looking all bewildered at everyone and their momma because it didn’t make sense. Scarves are an accessory with both an aesthetic and physical function. It serves as a great neckpiece, converts great into a shawl, or even a bow tie, but it also has the potential to keep you warm.

Something else to usher in the fall? Makeup! Now, I’ve briefly covered trends for the fall, and will definitely revisit the topic, but I’d like to share what some companies are ushering in for the new season. As we all know – seasons come with different colors, and wearing neons and bronzer may not be the most appropriate look for when the thermometer starts to dip.

Check out some of the other new products for fall in makeup and nails below. These include great ones from fan (and my) favorites from Too Faced, Stila, Benefit, Smashbox, Korres, etc.!

Fashion’s Night Out – The Plaza Beauty

Photobucket As promised, I have all the great deets for you. I can’t let y’all know all the tidbits from New York Fashion Week until I complete my FNO coverage, and so I’m running around my computer her trying to upload the pics as fast as my computer will let me. The desire is there people, the technology is lagging. 🙂

As some of you may have seen from my tweets on Twitter, I was very impressed with the displays in the shows and just how the whole city looked like it was having a party. I went to so many stores that my feet were starting to sing a soprano by day’s end. As noted earlier, I hit up The Plaza first. (That’s a pic of a lucky lady getting her hurrr did at The Plaza btw).

I have a nifty new cam that took millions of pics for the event. Let’s face it – Fashion’s Night Out speaks louder with the images than with the words. So click ‘read more’ and get to viewing the good stuff! 🙂

I’d love to have a beauty consultation here… seems regal – si?

The Plaza Beauty had all sorts of fun going on. I saw Smashbox, Becca, & the Warren-Tricomi haircare products, and was introduced to Kimiko skincare among others. There was a fab presentation of a hairstyle, and an exhibit serving as an homage to the Wizard of Oz and the ruby red shoes!

While waiting for the elevator, I noticed that they had outfits planned out as inspirations behind glass. Wouldn’t you love to have your clothes displayed like so?

There were designs up for the red shoes by designers like Botkier, Betsey Johnson, Sergio Rossie, etc. I actually was surprised because I couldn’t find the Louboutin design – but maybe I missed it?
