Magazine Weekend – Women’s Health September 09

Hey y’all! Happy weekend!

No weekend goes by without a magazine to accompany it, right? Well this weekend, we are exploring the phenomenon that happens all the time. Very often you hear people complaining about not being able to find the right shade of lipstick or lip gloss, and saying that though it looked good on someone else, or in the bottle, it looked terrible on them.

Well, Women’s Health (the September issue) has some good pointers at picking out just the right color and the most flattering shade for you. They also have a great interview with covergirl Mila Kunis. Click ‘read more’ to read the tip and see what else the magazine has for curious readers!

Here’s two tips from the magazine for figuring out if you’re warm toned or cool toned (a key part in choosing a color), and how best to test out the color before committing to buying it:

Photobucket

Also from the mag:

“80% of women have cool undertones, but don’t assume that you do.”

Check out the magazine for the guide on which shades go with cool and warm skin tones, along with the colors that are universally flattering. Also – check out which colors the guide says to avoid!

Shoot me an e-mail to MyOwnJudge@gmail.com if you would like me to explore other/have topics and/or magazines, or for general opinions of what’s in magazine weekend.

Mama Said Knock(you)Out!

Photobucket Have I got more nail polish for you! Trying to get back on schedule with all the nifty products and companies I have to present to you, I have to resort to double and maybe even triple a day posts. But y’all like that right?

This one is a-one that should matte-a to you. Corny? Eh…

Remember when KO Knockout was having an event at Henri Bendel and I got my nails done in Ox? If not, click here for a refresher. Well I have two more polishes in my collection of mattes and I felt compelled to share.

All the colors:

product-karen product-liberty product-OX product-Pool product-Concrete product-flatte product-powder product-calamine
(Left to Right) Karen, Liberty, Ox, Pool, Concrete, Flatte, Powder, Calamine

Click ‘Read More‘ to see more pictures and swatches!

The two that I have are Liberty (left) and Concrete. And here are the lookers themselves!

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Check out the fancy packaging . I had to lighten the pic so you can see all the fancy emboss-ment and frosted look. 🙂

You can also click here to see what Ox looked like on my digits!

I have to say KO Knockout is the brand that has the best matte formula that I’ve come across. It lasts super long, has a large matte color selection, and has super original packaging.

The most interesting thing about this company is that they post swatches of all their polishes! Granted they don’t have hundreds so it’s easier, but really – I haven’t seen this anywhere else. Click here to check out the looks!

What do you think? Have you tried a matte polish yet?

Care to try KO Knockout?

Nailed by Duri

PhotobucketI have to warn ya – today will be a day of multiple posts. And today will be a day of nails.

Now that I’ve made that clear, I would like to present without further ado (and I have been adoing for a while) Duri Cosmetics, with their Fall 2009 polish collection.

The collection is called Rags to Riches I’ve been rocking my million dollar Duri nails for a hot minute now.

Click read more at the bottom to see all the colors!

Here are all the colors:
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
(513) Million Dollar Baby, (514) Silver Spoon, (515) Penny Saved is a Penny Earned

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
(516) Dress to Impress, (517) Money Don’t Make Me, (518) Slumdog Millionaire

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
(519) Social Ladder, (520) Party Like a Rock Star, (521) Trophy Wife

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
(522) Formula for Success, (523) Luxury Time, (524) Rags to Riches

The ones in my possession:

Party Like a Rock Star, Million Dollar Baby, Penny Saved is a Penny Earned

and look how identical the color is to the bottle:

They’re all super creamy and no fuss. All of these swatches were two coats, with the exception of Million Dollar Babythat is more because I like my polishes to be more opaque (3 coats). All the polishes cost $5 and you can get them on the website here. The catch? Some of the colors are coming out now, and some later ;).

Available in September:

(513) Million Dollar Baby, (515) Penny Saved is a Penny Earned, (517) Money Don’t Make Me, (519) Social Ladder, (520) Party Like a Rock Star, (524) Rags to Riches

Available in November:

(514) Silver Spoon, (516) Dress to Impress, (518) Slumdog Millionaire, (521) Trophy Wife, (522) Formula for Success, (523) Luxury Time

I’m looking to purchase Dress to Impress to add to my fall collection.

Have you tried Duri? Which ones are your fave?

Ladies & Gents of the Jury – Rihanna

PhotobucketSo you think you’re a pro jury now eh? You are!

I’m glad my readers get the chance to prance into my courtroom day in and day out to fulfill their judicial duties. I wouldn’t want anyone dodging my jury notices! With that, here’s the doozy for the week:

Enter into the courtroom Miss RiRi, Rihanna
Ever the fashionista, she has a fab photo shoot for the Couture Supplement in September’s Italian Vogue, and I want to know what you think!

Do you like it? What’s calling out to you?

Photobucket Photobucket

It’s definitely not a commercial look, so that’s out of the question. The diva in training has her gaze down, but I fear she might not have the versatility of a top model – her face seems to have the same expression in them all, no?

Photobucket

That of course doesn’t subtract from the awesome photography by Stephen Klein or the styling… Or even the beauty!

I’m loving it, but who am I?

Back to… (s)cool :)

It’s that time again. You know – when the sun hides a lot longer than it shines, and when you wake up in the middle of the night feeling a bit colder than when you went to sleep.

I thought up some ideas and put together a few options to take a peek at. Most of the items are $50 and under, so if you get the itch to shop – it won’t hurt too bad!

Photobucket
Whenever long sleeves come into play, the button up top is the quintessential top that never does you wrong. There are many options for them and the color varieties are endless. The best thing about it, is that depending on what your environment is, you can snazzy it up for an outing, or down for your HR manager/professor.

Ruffles are playful and will keep you from getting too glum as the weather gets colder and the darkness more abundant.

Photobucket
Make use of the natural inspirations outside and around you. Take a cue from what is natural at this time of year in terms of colors and incorporate that into your wardrobe!

Photobucket
Just because it’s warm, doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in sheer fantasies. Pick brighter colors layered over dark colors to keep yourself warmer, and to be kind to other people. Though really – if you’re like me and you don’t care so much what others care about your outfit, you should be putting your neon sheers over white tanks and keep the hope of summer alive.

And while you’re at it, going back to school or just back to cool in the fall, you need new makeup to renew your look right? What better way than to do it with the versatility of a palette?

Here are some under $20 versions!

Talk It Out – Shopper Identification

So this is it y’all. September has hit and so starts the countdown to that special day. What day? My birthday!! As the 23rd fast approaches, so do my bills.

See there’s this phenomenon that occurs around this time every year recently. September hits, and I hit the stores. No matter the resolve, the goals, nothing. Yaya hits up the plastic dreams (and future nightmares lol). I start to buy a thing here and there as my “birthday essentials” and as the purchases get bigger, they become “gifts for myself” … then it becomes “well if no one else gets this for me…”

Right… Well yesterday – as August waved it’s last goodbye and the autumn breeze threw a teaser into the streets of New York, Yaya hit up the stores. I noticed one thing. I have a haphazard shopping pattern in a store.

I walk from front to back and collect everything I like in my size and maybe a size smaller or bigger depending on how questionable the fabric is. Then I get to the fitting room. Most often almost 90% of the items I try on don’t work. As I walk to the register with my feeble shopping cart, I unearth a million and five items I missed but love. This time around, I don’t want to venture back to the fitting room, and once I buy it, I might not even come back in time to return it. I’m trapped.

Now y’all are all shoppers – at one point or another. I’m guilty of falling into this trap even with groceries. Are you just as guilty? Talk to me all about it! 🙂

More Beckham for your Closet

Photobucket Have y’all taken a peek at the advertisement/video for Victoria (posh) Beckham‘s clothing line? Remember all those paparazzi shots they had of her somberly swinging on a larger than life swing/ Well it was for this one ad I’m talking about!

I have to tell y’all – lady must’ve been holding out, because I wasn’t thoroughly impressed with her partnership with Rock & Republic denim, and her being the face of Armani or Marc Jacobs here and there just doesn’t equal to her own.

The designer herself has been spotted wearing her own creations, as well as Ms. Elle MacPherson (among many others) click here for more images from and The Style Bitches and InStyle

Here’s the ad my dearies:

Here’s an interview with Mrs. Beckham from New York Magazine:

Walk on over to Bergforf Goodman to see or buy (you rich hoot) your own Beckham design, and to see more styles as they are not yet up online.
