Youtube is a go!

Sorry for the delay in posts y’all. Sleep definitely trumped posting yesterday, and the rest of the time was spent trying to finally, finally get my Youtube channel up. As I mention in the video, it has been forever and a day since I’ve been taping but yet and still today is the launch day.

There is nothing like a self made video to make you question how you look to other people when you speak and how you sound!

Check out the intro, and check back for more videos!

Fall Layering

MyOwnJudge - Emily OsmentEmily Osment attended the Halloween Carnival in Los Angeles earlier last week, debuting the perfect fall style. Haley Joel‘s sister and Disney star was wearing the perfect style of layering for fall – the best way to make your summer wardrobe last longer by doubling up.

Pair short sleeve knits over longer sleeves.
This creates contrast, but also keeps your torso warm when chills come around.

Wrap a sock around that jean.
Socks are great for holding denim in place when tucking into boots, but when you have a knee high sock that peeks out of the boot, that’s even better.

Pair with some cute bangles in a complimentary jewel tone and a long strand necklace is all you need to complete the look.

How do you layer in Fall?

American Apparel Nails

MyOwnJudge - American Apparel
I’ve been a nail polish glutton this past week. There are periods when each day brings a new pack of polishes into my life and has people (especially the honey) scratching their heads about how much polish is really needed in one’s life. I grabbed three American Apparel colors most recently.
Which one do you want to see in a NOTD first?

Mizani Supreme Oil

MyOwnJudge - Mizani Supreme OilI recently had the pleasure of attending a product launch for a brand already near and dear to my heart; Mizani. From previous posts regarding hair and recreating styles (check some out here), I have always mentioned the necessity of using some hair oil, whether it’s to maintain the softness of your hair several days after washing and styling, renewing your do, or just to add some sheen for that “I was in a commercial” overall style.

The event was very last minute on my schedule, so of course I was caught unawares without my camera. I tried to make my Blackberry do it’s best, but at the moment it’s doing it’s worst at uploading the images when I need them (so stay tuned!). The launch was for Mizani Supreme Oil.

Some info about the product:
Supreme Oil is a 99% naturally-derived formula with 8 natural oils (sesame, jojoba, almond, avocado, apricot, olive fruit, sunflower and argan oils) that is silicone, mineral oil and paraben-free. Designed for any hair type, this ultra-light treatment penetrates and absorbs to treat and smooth the hair, so it is not greasy unlike silicones and mineral oil that only lay on the hair’s surface. Experience a truly exquisite treatment with an ultra-luxe velvety touch. (source)

The benefits as listed on the site:
1. Delivers intense moisturizing & exceptional softness.
2. Imparts incredible shine.
3. Nourishes hair and skin.
4. Leaves hair and skin soft and silky.
5. Helps enhance skin’s overall texture & appearance.
6. Fortifies and strengthens hair to help prevent breakage.
7. Improves hair’s elasticity and manageability.
8. Locks out humidity for continuous frizz control.
9. Non-greasy, fast-absorbing.
10. Can be layered over or under other hair or body products.

I haven’t subjected the oil to a rigorous test yet, but from using it at the event I can vouch for many of the claims. The oil is a smoothing, frizz erasing (depending on what state it catches your hair in – my hair desperately needed a wash, so it just softened the disaster area) hair sheen, which also doubles as an all over scent and body oil. Right after I put the oil on my hair, another attendee inquired as to what my perfume was.

Because the oil contains zero silicone, parabens, or waxes, it is safe to use on the body as well as the hair. It’s actually the smartest to do, because all hair products touch our scalp (and thereby our skin) in any case. The oil is not greasy and leaves your digits free to type away on Twitter or shake hands with new contacts within minutes. This was the most (pleasantly) surprising feature for me, because that’s one of the necessary evils I agree to when I use hair oil (almost every day). I usually have a box of tissues handy to wipe the excess grease away, or head to the bathroom to wash my hands.

The company already covers much of haircare in terms of Scalp Oil, Conditioner Treatment, and basics like the Shampoo and Conditioner, but this product serves as a multi purpose product for ease of use. It works with every hair and body treatment (blowout, smooth, renew, natural extensions, braid refresh, scalp treatment, body, etc.) and is travel friendly.

I’ll take it for a spin for a week and let you know how it works out. In the meantime, you should still try it out and consider getting one.

What is your favorite hair product?

Late Night Lust

MyOwnJudge - Last Call with Carson Daly
Most nights you can find me awake way past midnight on the east coast wandering around the world wide web. Sometimes the wander is with determination and an endpoint in sight, but usually, it’s the prequel to the morning “I don’t know what took me until four am to wrap up” excuses.

Today as I took a chance at crochet (my hand is cramped but I got a couple of rows looking all purrty like!) I was watching all the late night shows, Jimmy Fallon had an all too funny game of “water war” with Chris Meloni and darling Chloe Moretz appeared on Last Call with Carson Daly.
MyOwnJudge - Last Call with Carson Daly
The girl (she’s thirteen!), recently famous for her role in Kick-Ass was sporting the cutest striped zip up jacket with strong shoulders and ribbed sleeve accents. The collar was a dark black as well. I was swooning throughout the whole interview. Check out after the jump for some cute striped jackets to mimic the look and the interview. She even mentions the Biebs!

All the items in the look are clickable. Which one is your favorite? To make the look less stuffy, pair it with jeans and a tee, just like Miss Chloe.

Are We Getting Too Sensitive?

MyOwnJudgePublic outcry used to be on a much lower volume in the past than it has become today. Sure, a lot of it has to do with how open conversation has become with the onslaught of technology and social media. I’ve often been guilty of using my phone to document the street crimes in fashion (leggings so see through you can point out the pattern on the underwear!) or just ludicrous (man using resistance bands at the crosswalk to exercise topless?) and sending them straight to Twitter or Facebook to get a jury’s verdict.

When something on television or in a magazine used to rub a person the wrong way, they would take to writing a letter, or trying to go to the news. Now? All they need to do is send an e-mail or post a tweet. Depending on how many people sympathize, a “shake my head” moment can snowball into public outrage in half a day.

The day Katy Perry dared to don a camisole on Sesame Street to do her Sesame version of Hot N Cold parents threw up their hands in protest, unhappy with that much skin being available for their toddlers to see. Maybe it’s because my parenting days are still ahead of me, but I saw nothing of the x rated fashion on the clip, and thought the parentals were going overboard.
MyOwnJudge
The parents weren’t happy again, when the cast members of  Glee did a shoot for GQ magazine, protesting that adults who played teenagers on a show shouldn’t do provocative photo shoots, and neared it to pedophelia. One of the “guilty” parties, Dianna Agron took to her blog to offer an apology of sorts. She apologized if parents were offended by the shoot but asked why an eight year old would be holding a copy of the magazine. She also mentioned that the shoot didn’t depict the “real” her, and that her dream shoot would involve dragons. I’m not always fond of the shoots men’s magazines do with the members of the Hollywood interest of the moment, but I agree. Were the parents mad when Marge Simpson hit the covers of Playboy?

In a world where the youth is growing up too fast under incorrect management, everyone is afraid to mirror the mistakes that plagued Brittany, Lindsey, et al. The new teens and tweens are often either too eager to get more exposure by exposing themselves, or have staff with big eyes for money behind them, not interested in preserving the integrity of their youth. Miley Cyrus‘ new video Who Owns My Heart, and Taylor Momsen‘s Revolver magazine cover are just the biggest example of such in current day. Even Willow Smith didn’t get a pass from the public, with critics saying she’s better off starting her career later because young Hollywood is destined to burn if they start early.

The internet has made it possible for people to follow another’s every step and action, and has given them the power to comment on the rights and wrongs of it right after. What used to be a slip up in an interview has become broader, and more along the lines of walking on egg shells.

It is human nature to make mistakes, but is it equally so to pass judgment? Throughout life we all make errors and learn from them. We’re not all fortunate enough to have a million followers submitting feedback. But in the end, who is right? Does freedom of speech cover criticizing a star for weight gain, a young woman for discussing her sexuality, or a grown woman from posing in a sexy shoot?

Did the internet give society the remote control (emphasis on control) on the good vs. the bad, or has mankind gotten a little too sensitive?

Mattesse Elite NOTD

MyOwnJudge - Mattesse Elite NOTDSocial media is a double edged sword. Sometimes, you experience the good, you find new products, new brands, new friends. You learn new information and you hear about sales, etc. The dark side of it all is the negativity (as you may have seen in the news) where people grow larger than life personalities when behind a monitor. The real negative for me at the moment though, is all the unnecessary temptation it causes for me to shop. If cosmetics and nail polish were in the garden of Eden, I would’ve been kicked out mighty fast.

When New York retailer Ricky’s (don’t let that turn you off, they ship everywhere) posted alerts of their new Orgasmic collection polishes on Twitter, I was salivating for the color Hard Edge. After chatting them up, I had a couple of suggested stores to visit for optimal stock of the color I wanted (Hard Edge). That was it. I fed into the temptation. No more conviction necessary, I was headed to the store. Then it got worse. After visiting multiple stores looking for the color I wanted, I fell in love with other colors. Blasphemy!

I came home with my tail between my legs and three polishes in hand (not a single one of them the one I went to look for in the first place). At least the colors are pretty (find the upside!). First up is Amazing Rush.

I tried to take the picture in sunlight by my window, but something wasn’t meant to be. What’s meant to be daylight on the left without flash is actually how it looks in the dark, or with poor lighting. The photo on the right is with flash and is how the color looks naturally. It’s a great green gold with plenty shimmer.

The first coat applies half sheer and doesn’t promise much good stuff. The second coat erases all doubt. The best part about this mani is that a base coat plus two thin coats only needed a total of fifteen minutes or so drying time. The nails dried super duper smooth and I was off pulling my too tight jean zipper within minutes. The color is pleasantly unexpected. It has the right amount of everything that is loud and requires control, without going overboard. The color looks great on my skin (even if I say so myself), and I think that statement would be unanimous with anyone who wore it. Plus, the polish is only $5.99. Less than most drugstore brands.

Lakers Wives

Photobucket
The newest addition to the Lakers wife club is R&B singer Monica. She will be joining Mrs. Odom, Mrs. Bryant, and many others with the regal purple and gold star team as the future Mrs.Brown, accepting Shannon Brown’s engagement request.

Seems like the team is marrying a player at a time, as the Odom couple just celebrated their one year anniversary earlier this month.

Do you think she makes a good addition to the team?

Willow, Looking Cute So

MyOwnJudge
As the net is abuzz on the recent nautical stripes, chains, and camel scarf partnership of young star Willow Smith, I was thinking “I could swear she always dressed cute.” Lo and behold a few searches later and I had an array of photographs making my closet look amateur and mediocre.

The 9 year old is on a high that will undoubtedly only be the first. Her styles are fashionable and adventurous, but highly age appropriate. It’s easy to start a love affair with a child who isn’t afraid to be a child. Willow credited her mother as her stylist on her recent radio appearance to NY Station Power 105.1.

Her style has stepped up circa her brother’s The Karate Kid movie premieres. The rest is just history!
