Gray the H&M Way

MyOwnJudge - H&M Nail PolishThe new H&M polishes are bigger in size and offer more support and surface area for those with adult digits. I grabbed a couple of colors and am using this time of post-cold to catch up with images and posts. Being able to breathe through your nose is fantastic y’all.MyOwnJudge - H&M Nail Polish MyOwnJudge - H&M Nail PolishLeft image is without flash and right is with flash. I have an endless appreciation for these polishes (and all other polishes who do this) because of their flawless carryover from color delivery at first look to different lighting. That and I have a thing for 90 degree angles on polishes!

What do you think? Have you tried any?

Metallic Momentum

MyOwnJudge Sally HansenAdults have been telling me to eat and drink my vitamins for years now. You would think that a progression from chewables (they never tasted right to me) to ones you could swallow would be a little less drama, but now there’s the matter of being too busy to drink vitamins. When I think about it, I realize how foolish it is. Really? I don’t have spare time to remember to swallow something good for me? But enough about my vices.

As I attempt to better my vitamin habits, I am starting to try out the new polishes in my collection one by one, in between overhauls of going back to nubs and growing again.MyOwnJudge Sally Hansen MyOwnJudge Sally HansenI love the smoothness and opacity of this polish. It makes me think of Minx manis, although this isn’t as perfect. No flash on left, and flash on the right.

Zoya NOTD

MyOwnJudge Zoya Nail PolishI’ve been getting quite intimate with the Zoya Intimate Collection. The colors are a perfect segue from winter to spring – pastels, creams, shimmer, and subtle pops of color. Yes please!

My nails are in a state of attrocity. I don’t know if it’s a lack of vitamins, care, mixture of both, or if they’re just mad at me. Everytime I get to any resemblance of growth and legth, they all go through an apocalyptic fervor and snap, crackle, and pop down to nubs! Ugh!

I tried to salvage some nail shots in between, and think I will use falsies to swatch the other colors waiting to be photographed. MyOwnJudge Zoya Nail Polish MyOwnJudge Zoya Nail PolishLeft with flash, right withoutMyOwnJudge Zoya Nail PolishGemma is such a smooth green. It’s mossy, and frosty, and has a blue-ish shimmer to it if you look in the right light. It makes me think of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter 4), where Fleur Delacour and her troupe arrive from Beauxbatons Academy, and everything is aflutter. The color is soft, dreamy, and interesting. It also helps that it applies without a worry with two coats flat.–> MyOwnJudge Zoya Nail Polish

Cityscape NOTD

MyOwnJudgeThe greige hue is overwhelming my polish fantasies y’all. There is not a single time when I can walk past a polish line and not succumb to purchasing a grey/taupe color combination. Something about how subtle and different it is makes me a sucker each time.

MyOwnJudge MyOwnJudgeYou can probably tell which is the flash and which is without.

Prevail is a polish company found in Duane Reade drugstores on the east coast. Being that the company was bought by Walgreen’s, I am unsure if that means it will be on shelves nationwide.

How do you like the color?

Sequin Scandal NOTD

MyOwnJudge

Nanette Lepore at ShopStyle

The recent collection by Sally Hansen has been hard to track down at drugstores. The locations that keep up with the newer stuff often have empty displays from the stampedes of customers grabbing up the goods, and the so so stores are either still behind, or going empty and refusing to reorder.

With that said, I was surprised to come across Sequin Scandal when I wasn’t looking for it at all. The dark olive green has golden shimmer in it and is a pleasure to look at. It gave me a little trouble when trying to capture on camera (Beauty Judy‘s third shot of the color is too great), hiding it’s glory in the shadows.

This is a great party and holiday color, match it to an identically colored mini (sequins or not), a dark color, or a cream. Keep in mind though, that darker colors have a tendency to stain the cuticle area, thus making it a color you should sit down to apply, instead of swiping on the go.MyOwnJudgeThe color can veer on a little dark, but is very complimentary to any skin tone and does not get easily confused for a black (whereas a lot of other colors, like navy, and dark violet do).

OCC Nails of the Day

I’ve been slightly obsessed with beige grey (or greige) nail colors for the longest time. As soon as a chill entered the air, the color entered my shopping list. Much like purple shades, there is not one that I have come across that is identical to the other.MyOwnJudge MyOwnJudge
My polish of choice for a couple of days (as I try to do a different color every couple of days so as not to waste all that my hard earned money paid off VISA for!) is Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics polish in Uber. As you may have guessed, the left photo is with flash, and the right is without (and disregard the snafu smack dab center of the index finger).

The color perfectly matches the same name liptar (read the post about it here). The color goes on really smooth and dries super quick (especially if you take a pause in between each coat). See what other colors you can get on the site.

What’s your favorite shade for the season?

Rock Star Mani

As promised (although a little while back), the Revlon out of this world colors have made it to my nails. After a long awaited pause for my nails to quit their whining and regain a healthy look, I can finally wear colors and show you (otherwise, I just wear twenty colors at a time and refrain from photographs!). I have been trying to change them up every few days, because a major clean of the house is in order, and every time I seem to take on that project, I say farewell to my nails.MyOwnJudge MyOwnJudgeRock is a very attractive creamy purple. Purples in a bright consistency without any false shimmer to it (you know – when the bottle looks purple, but on the nail it looks more metallic?) are the best polishes to own. A natural purple is also hard to achieve, as many just get darker and look more vampy unless in direct sunlight.
MyOwnJudge MyOwnJudgeHere, Star is layered above the Rock polish. It contains different sizes of glitters, but is a little difficult to get an even coating of confetti and glitter on a nail. When using, you end up applying far too many coats to have the desired amount of glitter on your nails. Regardless though, the duo looks great to me.MyOwnJudge

Eyeko NOTD

MyOwnJudgeI’m dedicating the weekend to spend as much time to catching up with product reviews, photo uploads, and videos as I possibly can. The weekend contains tentative plans to attend the Circle of Sisters at the Javits Center and setting up my mom with some nice lashes and a wig (oh yes, the woman is going to a costume party as I await Trick or Treat requests!).

I’ve been heinously behind in getting back to people on time, keeping up with a schedule and even cleaning the house. It’s beyond terrible! But enough about me.

After reviewing my cache of photos yet to be uploaded, I found a sorry sight. Why didn’t y’all scream at me with a collective yell yet? My Eyeko triple color debut has had only one NOTD for the longest time, and the other two were sitting in a folder awaiting their debut. Check out the other two that make the set complete.MyOwnJudgePetite Polish is a pretty and clean natural color. The only thing not to like about it is the sheerness. The top photo is the polish with flash and the above is without flash and what it looks like regularly. I like these types of colors because they have a way of making nails look dainty and clean without needing to do much work.
MyOwnJudge MyOwnJudgeTea Rose Polish is the kind of pink I usually don’t purchase. It’s a little too close to the safe side for me. Perfect for working in the office, or the gal who isn’t friends with neons and pastels. Nothing is wrong with that, it’s just, that’s not me. The photo on the left is with flash and the right is without. The photo on the right (and below) is how the color looks generally, and you have to be in some bright rooms or streets to catch a glimpse of the left. I wish it came off more like the color under flash.

This color applied much better than the Petite Polish and became opaque in two coats.MyOwnJudgeDrying time for both polishes was decent. Not too fast and not too slow. An average 10-20 minute wait depending on the amount of coats applied.

Mattesse Elite NOTD

MyOwnJudge - Mattesse Elite NOTDSocial media is a double edged sword. Sometimes, you experience the good, you find new products, new brands, new friends. You learn new information and you hear about sales, etc. The dark side of it all is the negativity (as you may have seen in the news) where people grow larger than life personalities when behind a monitor. The real negative for me at the moment though, is all the unnecessary temptation it causes for me to shop. If cosmetics and nail polish were in the garden of Eden, I would’ve been kicked out mighty fast.

When New York retailer Ricky’s (don’t let that turn you off, they ship everywhere) posted alerts of their new Orgasmic collection polishes on Twitter, I was salivating for the color Hard Edge. After chatting them up, I had a couple of suggested stores to visit for optimal stock of the color I wanted (Hard Edge). That was it. I fed into the temptation. No more conviction necessary, I was headed to the store. Then it got worse. After visiting multiple stores looking for the color I wanted, I fell in love with other colors. Blasphemy!

I came home with my tail between my legs and three polishes in hand (not a single one of them the one I went to look for in the first place). At least the colors are pretty (find the upside!). First up is Amazing Rush.

MyOwnJudge - Mattesse Elite NOTD MyOwnJudge - Mattesse Elite NOTD
I tried to take the picture in sunlight by my window, but something wasn’t meant to be. What’s meant to be daylight on the left without flash is actually how it looks in the dark, or with poor lighting. The photo on the right is with flash and is how the color looks naturally. It’s a great green gold with plenty shimmer.

The first coat applies half sheer and doesn’t promise much good stuff. The second coat erases all doubt. The best part about this mani is that a base coat plus two thin coats only needed a total of fifteen minutes or so drying time. The nails dried super duper smooth and I was off pulling my too tight jean zipper within minutes. The color is pleasantly unexpected. It has the right amount of everything that is loud and requires control, without going overboard. The color looks great on my skin (even if I say so myself), and I think that statement would be unanimous with anyone who wore it. Plus, the polish is only $5.99. Less than most drugstore brands.

Find any hidden treasures recently?

Think Pink NOTD

SpaRitual at ShopStyle

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a press product preview event where I got to meet different brands and learn about products that just entered the market, along with ones that will be launching soon. I like these types of events for more than just the brand familiarity. You get a sneak peek into the future of cosmetics and trending, and you start feeling like someone slipped you some insider info.

The event worked with SPARTY! Never heard of them? The company, whose slogan is “Sip, Spa, Celebrate” helps make all events interesting by supplying everything and anything you need. Catering? Massages? Drinks? Manicures? They make it happen. This is a great idea for baby and wedding showers, or even birthday and location events.

When I heard about the manis, I spent my whole hour of travel time wondering what brand they’d be using and what color I would come home with on my digits. The winner was SpaRitual in Strike a Pose.
MyOwnJudge SpaRitual Strike a Pose

I grabbed the pink shade to commemorate October being Breast Cancer Awareness month. Strike a Pose isn’t too bright and outspoken, nor too dull and prude. Just enough oomph for every pair of hands available. The consistency was a little less opaque than I expected it to be, but it’s still a pretty color.

Are you rocking pink in October?
