Rimmel Celebrates in the US

MOJ and RimmelAs I was trolling my favorite subscriptions in Google Reader (which by the way, do you check the posts I share with y’all? There’s plenty of good stuff on the net and you can check it out in the pink square below labeled ‘Shared Posts’ on the sidebar or click here) and guess what I read about? Someone is reaching their birthday!

http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=myowju-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B001S02ADG&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifrRimmel London is said to be celebrating their tenth year in the United States, and rumor is, they are going all out to celebrate it. Why for almost as long, they have had famed model Kate Moss as their product headliner for nearly every advertisement (7 years).

While looking around the website a bit in preparation for reporting my findings, I found out about all the new and recent additions to the Rimmel roster. I also checked my girl Britt on www.clumpsofmascara.com and found out that she’s a fan of nearly all their mascaras!

I am loving the hot pink packaging for the new Max Volume Flash Mascara (sucker for packaging I am). All of their mascaras have gem colored packaging and fancy wands. Plus did I mention this is a drugstore brand?

But it doesn’t stop with the face! I’m also completely curious for their 60 Seconds Vinyl Mirror Nail Polish. I have to admit I have NEVER tried their products, but feel like a celebration is as good time as any to start!

The site is also chock full of giveaways and contests. They have a membership area where you can read and post reviews about products, and plenty of pages with looks. This might not sound special to you, but I appreciate when a company is more than just information online. Isn’t it nice to create a community where people can communicate with each other? Communicating in a community that is international and longstanding is probably as much fun as using their products (which really, you don’t have to try to realize that a decade+ old product must be doing something right)!

All images are from Rimmel‘s site and organized by Yaya from MyOwnJudge.net. All images found on this site belong to the owner.

Did you want to see what Kate Moss, Lily Cole, or Sofie Ellis Bextor wear on their shoots? Want to effortlessly and inexpensively pull off the model FOTD? Click on over! They also show past campaigns for Kate (clearly I spent some time on the site). Here are the three faves I put together! Which look is your favorite?

I’d Rather Him Naked…

MOJ Takes it Up with PETAPETA always gets a bit more attention this time of year for the mere fact that the colder weather brings out fur coats and other attire that they don’t necessarily approve of. Are you familiar with the group? I am, but barely. The organization fights for the ethical treatment of animals. Everyone has probably heard their mention from anything like hearing Pamela Anderson speak to the ads they post up. Who can forget the paint throwing incidents on fur wearers?

http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=myowju-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=0312559941&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifrPersonally, being born in Uzbekistan (formerly part of the Soviet Union), I have worn a fur coat or two to make up for the frigid weather that seeps through the winter months. I don’t know if I can take the no fur approach being that I wear leather as well, but I do support ethical treatment of animals. For example: if a cow is on a farm and is going to be killed for meat, I don’t see anything wrong with also using the hide for garments/etc. but only if it’s done humanely. But I digress.

As people start to buzz about the ads popping up in the US capitol, of a famed first lady in ads, I am stuck on something else. I have been seeing plenty a female pop up in the ‘Rather Go Naked…Than Wear Fur’ ads, but nary a naked man. The closest? The recent shoot with R&B singer Mario where he shows off his tattoos to ‘make ink and not mink’. Here’s the problem: he’s wearing pants.

Check out the photos after the jump. There is a poll embedded in this post, won’t you please visit the original to vote?

It might be a different campaign, but still. If females care enough to shed clothes, males should too. Especially good looking ones. Otherwise I might just have to get angry with the organization for being a bit sexist. Or do you think people (males and females alike) would rather ogle a female nekkid body than a male’s?

Check out the PETA main page for the ‘Rather Go Naked‘ campaign and to find out more about the organization here.

What do you think? About fur? About the campaign? Let me know!

Shecky’s Girl’s Night Out 1/2 off!

MOJ Shecky's DiscountI’ve previously alerted you to the Shecky’s Girl’s Night Out events happening all over the US and of the good times and goodies I got from attending, so what could make me happier than letting you know the tickets are half off? Not much really. Unless you promise to go with me next time.

Check out the list of locations where the events will be and let me know if you plan to go. Shecky’s also offers party planning services and has Beauty and Holiday Nights Out in addition to the fabulous Girl’s Night Out. What else? They have a newsletter that they cater as much as possible to you and your location. Once in a while I get an e-mail with new and tried and true bar/lounge recommendations that I forward to my gal pals. I usually end up looking like the genius master planner with nary an effort.

Yaya had a little L.A.M.B

I don’t know what it was but once I came across my first L.A.M.B handbag design I knew I was in trouble. This was a brand that became part of the notorious crew present in my lust list. The shoes and handbags never disappoint (as in I always want at least one of nearly everything out for mass consumption). Recently I’ve visited the outlets at Woodbury Commons and purchased one I could call my own.

MOJ L.A.M.B

I love the design because the blue is as bright as I love my colors to be. It matches my fave winter coat, AND the design looks like vines or skyscrapers depending on how you look at it.

The only thing making me sad? That I can’t get my favorite brand for as cheap a deal as I did at the outlet. Why? Well I can’t really trek out an hour from home by car every time I want to, now can I? Not really. But sample site Ideeli has the quick fix! They have the L.A.M.B handbags & accessories on sale now. I’m running over faster than I can press ‘Publish Post.’ You can too if you click on your invite link here. Remember, Ideeli doesn’t just do sales, they have popular brand giveaways too, but everything is 2-3 days short, so don’t lose out!

Do you have a favorite brand? Let me know!

Magazine Weekend: Guess Who’s Back?

Magazine WeekendBeing that I’m flipping from technological device to other device, I have not been able to do the same Magazine Weekend you might be accustomed to. But I am trying to keep y’all on your toes to make sure you’re in the know and interested.

Being that 2009 came to a close at a rapid pace, y’all probably took enough advice and tips to last you halfway through the new year. So enjoy this.

Guess who’s back?! Jennifer Garner!! Wife to Ben Affleck and mother to Violet and Seraphina (okay yes, I’m a bit too into her personal life – can’t help it – the girls are dolls!), the hot mama has also had plenty a chance to display her acting chops. Think Alias, Daredevil, 13 Going on 30, and my personal favorite; The Kingdom.

She took a hiatus from the Hollywood scene to focus on her ladies club at home, and from what I can see, she is doing great. I’m loving the sultry and fashionable looks she is sporting in W Magazine. Have y’all snagged a copy yet? I’m always feeling super special with a copy of the W in hand – they print on bigger size glossies than the norm and have some fab photo shoots. But you probably already knew that.

Magazine Weekend

I love me some Jennifer Garner. I’ve always admired her just right mix of sweet and stylish, and could see her with a vixen twinge as well. I also appreciate that her career has a variety of categories.

Do you read W? Like Jennifer Garner? Let me know!

Purus Cosmetics FOTD

PurusI have been deathly behind on posting the details of the last Bloggin’ Beauts get together, but the product that has struck me as the most amazing was Purus. Created by Dana (she’s only a teen!), the cosmetics line is all natural and the pigmentation is amazing. Check out my FOTD & the swatches!

If you want to learn more about the brand, click over here to the Bloggin’ Beauts page to read all about it!

This was probably my best blending job to date. The shades of Purus make it absolutely easy to blend.
These are the colors I used:
(left to right) pale mint, teal talent, sea foam, and dark sea

The Celebrity Crush

I will be the first to admit that I have an unhealthy knack for being in someone’s business. Not people I know though. I respect their privacy and try to stay away from turning into a gossip. But celebrities? I can probably rattle off their information as easily as my address.

I also create the weirdest scenarios in my head. Don’t know why I do it, but let’s play along for now, mmkay? I like to say ‘so and so looks a lot like so and so’s brother, if he had one.’ This makes it even more complex than necessary but happens naturally. Just like this situation here. I was making my rounds through the stack of mags I always have nearby and thought, well hmm Avril Lavigne looks a lot like the bad girl personality of Taylor Swift if she had one. You know – if you had a devil and angel pop up on each shoulder…

Photobucket Photobucket

Or maybe even as a vampire version of her?

I don’t know why we are so often fascinated with celebrity life – I’m sure a shrink could educate me some on the given topic. But until my lesson, do y’all have weird celebrity quirks? Do you agree with this scenario? Let me know!

Magazine Weekend: Over in India

Magazine WeekendWhen I pass a cover of Maxim I am accustomed to seeing a bikini shot. Always. Anything less would surely be surprising. So imagine my surprise witnessing Maxim India with Sameera Reddy, Bollywood maven smoldering with less skin showing.

Mama always taught Yaya that a shoulder will get more than baring the belly, and showing some leg accomplishes more than booty. I can’t say that I’ve always been a modest girl scout, but I do have to admit that as I grow younger with every year (only things that grow old are wine and cheese!), I see that tidbit pay for itself more and more.

I always think to myself if I knew then what I know now, just how much more fabulous I would’ve been.

Well enough about me though, I will be doing my best to do Magazine Weekend for US and International magazines as well, check out the stunner for this week.

Magazine Weekend

Just goes to show you that some baby oil, high heels, figure flattering dress, shoulder, and pout accomplishes about the same (if not more) as a bikini clad, tearing at the clothes lady.

What do you guys think?

Neckin’ on the Covers

Magazine WeekendThe maxi necklace. The bib. The multi-chain. Starting to sound familiar? I’m talking about the new craze to dress up the necks of day workers and debutantes alike.

I remember when layering two necklaces was a big deal following after Miss Carrie a la Sex in the City. Following the bigger is better mentality, us gals have kept up with the trend. Right? I have.

There are the necklaces with mixed beads and materials looking like bibs (and thus aptly named so) with a piece of felt usually holding the design together, wrapping around you with a ribbon. Then there are the stone ones, garnering plenty attention, looking like something from the Queen’s collection. Then there are the gaggles of chains collected together, sometimes mixed with rhinestones, pearls, and various stones, looking like a gem filled string of sausage links. Of course, that can spread to multi strands at different layers, encompassing the whole area of your upper body, and the list continues forever.

So you can imagine my enjoyment when I was trolling my favorite magazine sites Cover Awards and MagXone to see so many winter covers sport the various styles.

Magazine Weekend

Most of the covers are international glossies, but a lot are well known publications that grace the coffee tables (and sometimes little girl rooms) of you and I.

Magazine Weekend

I love this style of necklaces because they create such a huge statement, that you don’t need much else in the accessories field. You might even need minimal work in the outfit as well depending on how far the necklace extends. Such strong styles usually warrant a simple top. They look great with shift dresses, solid colors, and strapless tops. I’ve started playing around with the necklaces that have separate strands hanging out and trying to wear them with V-neck tops. It’s been a hit or miss so far though, because sometimes it looks overdone, and sometimes it’s the bees knees. But you already know the deal – I’ll be my own judge!

Do you have any favorites? Own a necklace of the sort? See similar covers? Let me know!

Magazine Weekend: Amber’s VIBE

Magazine WeekendI’m glad to come back to Magazine Weekend on MOJ to compliment the work that VIBE magazine put out. If y’all followed the news and my Twitter, you would’ve heard my serious dismay at the magazine folding, and then my excitement into their online mag ventures. But coming out with new issues? I’m not clear on the specifics but I can most definitely say they are coming back with a bang.

Right as their doors closed shut, their Christina Milian and The Dream cover was the last. Admittedly, I was disappointed with the artwork/photography for said cover, but my loyalty ran deeper than that. I also heard that they were about to go overboard for an MJ dedication issue, but never got the chance. The offices were several floors below my job, and it was a bit sad to see the elevator doors open to bare walls instead of larger than life past covers, or see Maino riding upstairs.

But no mas with the reminiscing. My magazine is beyond redemption and back on it’s A game with their Amber Rose photo shoot. I know this is a civilization when we are all too happy to assign fame to people who did nothing to deserve it, but I think this gal has flavor and can rock a dress or whatever else to tongue-wagging results. I also love a woman strong enough to rock a close shaven head (because I sure as hell can’t). That and I have to say I like her modeling gigs, have no interest in her personal life, annnddd…. well who am I to be a hater? Don’t hate, Congratulate!

I feel like in some photos her bronze-y skin, model squint, and red lips are a bit reminiscent of Catherine Zeta Jones, every time I tried to find a picture to match though, I proved myself wrong. Do you think she looks like someone? I can’t shake the feeling that I do…

Magazine Weekend

Lovin’ this shoot? The mag? Check out the site for more great stuff!
