Blog Review Time!

[[edit]] So I had this scheduled for Friday, and it didn’t go through as planned because I apparently am dyslexic with my typing of years. Enjoy this later than sooner, and better than never!

Here we are again at Friday’s door – what’s in store in the web for my lovely readers?

Here’s a collection of a bunch of links from the unposted Blog Reviews while I have been remiss, along with some current ones as well.

Check the sidebar in Shared Posts or click here for more posts I share throughout the week and periodically. Most of the time these posts don’t go up in the Blog Review as I don’t want to double post too much.

Shoot me an e-mail to MyOwnJudge@gmail.com if you would like me to explore other/have topics and/or magazines, or for general opinions of what’s in magazine weekend.

Stila Back In Action – super pic heavy

So as I have already happily announced – Stila is back and better than ever!

I’m a little late with this post, but you won’t be sorry!

First let me show you the proof – while at the Makeup Show NY, we not only got to see numerous beautiful brands, including the lovely Stila, but we also got to chat with the people that bring you those favorite brands!

Here you will see the staff for Stila giving all Yaya’s readers a thumbs up. This was an exclusive photo!! 🙂

Just to let y’all know they’re dandy. 🙂

This post is about the Stila new Egypt Indian Summer collection, and also serving as a double review – how exciting!!

The collection

Remember when I posted about the Stila limited edition Pearl collection? Well it’s an ongoing theme now.

As part of the prosperous and long lasting (fingers crossed) direction that Stila is heading in, it seems that the seasons come with gems and precious stones to adorn the Stila lover.

Everything in this collection contains actual 24k gold in it. Every item in the roster has little flecks of gold in it. Even the smudge pot! Oh man, the smudge pot is sooooo gorgeous!!

What it is:

Review (5 highest, 1 lowest):

Packaging: 5 out of 5 (the lip gloss has a hand made bindi attached to it)

Quality: 5 out of 5

Price: 4.5 out of 5 ($22.00 for each – it IS a “recession”)

Overall: 5 out of 5

The evidence:

Left – one coat
Right
– three coats
glossy just how I like it!

This was after I wiped the gloss off with a Kleenex. The gold specs stay on your lips and look so nice.

and the mascara:

Please note: the mascara is currently sold out on Stila’s website – but keep checking back, it is worth the trouble! I also don’t think this is in the Indian Summer collection, but I was too excited to wait around till another post!

the before – disregard the shadow

Lengthening on the left &

Both sides on both eyes, I got a little heavy with the right side but still no clumps!

My Verdict:

First of all – the bindi is an unbelievably detailed and gorgeous addition to the design aspect. Do y’all know what a bindi is? Here’s the short of it a la Wiki: A bindi (from Sanskrit bindu, meaning “a drop, small particle, dot”) is a forehead decoration worn in South Asia (particularly India)[1] and Southeast Asia.

Though I had the financial willpower to resist every darn item in the roster, I don’t fault anyone who got it all. I think I will be sauntering back to get the smudge pot. The more you move every item around, the more evident the gold flecks become, and blends seamlessly together.

Also – I have not been a Stila mascara user, but as of now, I am. The lengthening side is no joke, and I got really heavy with the application on one side (like 8 or 9 swipes y’all) and it didn’t clump at all.

The mascara removal process requires no fancy gadgets or liquids, your normal remover, or oil will work fine, and your lashes don’t ever feel heavy or anything but their natural selves.

For more Stila junkies:

Check out Marie Claire’s online webseries that comes out in conjunction with each publication. In this one, Maggie Gylenhaal professes her love for Stila at the end when celebrities get 15 seconds of frame to rant and rave. 🙂

I think this collection is a must have!

Contest Entry – Celebrity Smokey Eye

As a last minute entry to Rai’s Celebrity inspired makeup contest, I decided to do a black smokey eye a la Eva Mendes.

the inspiration:

the outcome:

the numerous outtakes:

what I used:

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Dark as bronzer
MAC Mineralize Blush in Dainty (probably my most favorite blush ever)
Lorac Foundation sample (you’d think it wouldn’t last me this long)
Mehron Paradise Makeup AQ in White (as a primer on eyes)
Urban Decay Cream Shadow in Asphalt
Maybelline Professional Natural Lash Clear Mascara
Lancome Oscillating Mascara in Black
Styli-Style Lipstick in 1520 Nude
MAC Lustre Glass in Pinkarat
and all the white-to black shades on the 120 color palette

I used 2 blending brushes, a foundation brush, a medium shadow brush, and a blush brush…

Swag Attack!

I’ve been bad. VISA can tell you that. So can Mastercard. Discover too. But here’s what I got to show for it!!

The damage done from the Makeup Show

I also tried a couple of new products through all my lollygagging through the city. I bought two eyeshadows from Terra Shadow. I have been looking at them in the drugstore for a while now but finally got a few to try out. Look at the pics!

Found them in Duane Reade (which is like CVS and Walgreen’s in NY). I didn’t think they would be sooo pigmented or so bright. I am most definitely going back for more!

Theeen I went to a Beauty Supply store in downtown Brooklyn lol (they are all pretty much one store locations, so I usually don’t bother getting the names – sorry!). I tried out Sinful Colors and Profusion lip gloss. Amazing! I am soo addicted now!

Profusion in 10
Sinful Colors in Icy and Wink

Here are the swatches:

Sinful Colors in Wink

I tried it with my super bright light and without it – left side is more realistic colorwise.

Profusion in 10

The only thing I don’t like about the Sinful glosses are the applicators:

By now, I think I have probably used up half of the Profusion lip gloss (it reminds me of MAC cream sheen – will have to see if there are dupes), and have big dreams of an amateur photo shoot for the Sinful Colors gloss. Plus they were all super cheap! Nothing over $3.00!

For the indulgent MAC purchase to brighten up a gloomy day, I bought the Dazzleglass in Smile!

So of course I had to smile! lol

Plus the lipgloss is covering a pimple!

Okay no more confessing for a while (I hope).

Another Makeup Show Teaser!

I kind of decided I would do teasers with just photographs and minimal descriptions, and then do singular posts on companies that really left a mark in my heart (or wallet).

These were all my passes from each day. I def should’ve just signed up as press to begin with, but you know me… Let’s make things difficult!

I didn’t get too much from MUFE – just an empty palette to put e/s pans into and one pan of 92. Everyone has 92 right? lol The line for them was ridiculous – both days it was upwards to an hour of waiting. But hey – I still waited!

MUFE displays – how gorgeous right? If I only didn’t have a budget…

MUFE male body art. Definitely competition for the Mehron that I showed before.

These were some of the gorgeous displays that they had up on the wall of some of the artists, companies, and their work. If I was tall enough I would’ve taken a picture of every single one – they all looked so good!

There were plenty bloggers at the show, a couple that I already knew, but mostly new friends that I made! I will have to wait for some of my fellow blogging beauties to post up their pictures of the actual people and not the makeup 🙂 as my camera was on the fritz, so bear with me if you don’t feel like I’ve satisfied your hunger!

Makeup Show – Mehron

We’re all already aware of the magical powers and wonders of Mehron. Their body painting was competition to none at the show, and most likely for miles away as well (though MUFE & Temptu did have some impressive body art as well). I only purchased a white cream pot from them, in anticipation for the crazy contests and looks I hope to do (previously, I had been using the MUFE Fard Gras in white – like for the drag queen look, but this is more economical for all over application – plus seeing Miss Pink do it so many darn times with the stick, I just had to get it).

So what do I bring to you guys for an entertaining post then? Pictures aplenty of Mehron!

Some body art, and a big round of applause for the brave models!

Had to do a close up – I was in love with this look for eyes!

The delectable displays:

How I love to see bright colors. Y’all don’t know at all do you?

Mehron was also constantly doing leopard print bright eyes on willing participants.

This pretty lady had it in purple:

During her makeover, and I caught up with her afterwards:

Ladies – if this is you, let me know so I can give ya credit! I was so overcome with makeup fever that I didn’t get anyone’s name or contact info!

And now, the Mehron website is also showing you how to accomplish some of their looks, like this New Year’s 2009 look. Click here or on the image for more details.

Do you have any interesting Mehron stories? Do tell!

Chatty

Fresh on the heels of the Makeup Show, my mind is abuzz with all the new products, tidbits, and posts coming up.

So this week, let’s keep it simple. More of an open forum.

What is new to you now? Is there a new product/line you are excited to see? Did you get something new you can’t wait to try out?

I sure have! The Makeup Show was filled with brands that I was unfamiliar with, and tricks of the trade I was oblivious to. The majority was actually foundations and mineral pigments.

The biggest highlight for me was a makeup stand/case from Nigel’s Beauty Emporium, but alas, my funding could not afford it!

Sadly – I couldn’t find the one from Nigel, so this one pictured is from MakeupArt.Net.

How gorgeous though, right?

Greetings from the Makeup Show!

Didn’t I say I had plenty to make up my absence?
