Lip Service

MyOwnJudge - Lip TrendsThe magazines and websites are ablaze with lip colors that are trending this season. The truth of the matter is that anything bright is on par with the trends. The standout colors shouldn’t be too surprising, as they always peek their heads out as soon as the sun comes out to play for real. Case in point: orange and pink. A newcomer to the popular table is the lilac and purple lipstick. Let’s blame it on the gals who take the stage in costumes your mother would never advise you wear. As far as the red – well that one never goes out of style. A bright red lip is a bad-mamajama all year, come rain sleet or snow (and unlike the postal service, it doesn’t take days off).

I love the orange trend the most because a lot of the times it comes off as a red depending on what shade you get it in, and how you wear it, and it makes your teeth look brighter than your toothpaste ever could. Though I have favorite lipsticks for all of the shades, the hands down winner is the selection of colors by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics with their Lip Tars. The best thing with them is that you can even mix them to customize your own color.

p.s. I had to add a celebrity example in a variety of skin tones because I don’t want to hear anyone say the color doesn’t look good on their skin. Retire that mindset!

Which color tickles your fancy the most?

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Tinted Moisturizer

MyOwnJudge - OCC TintLast week I was invited to Wonderland to check out the launch of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics new Tinted Moisturizer.MyOwnJudge - OCC TintThere may be some sort of bias going on because I’m such a fan of the brand, but it’s not without merit. The brand is always spot on with their pigmentation and efficiency in their products. The moisturizer is no different. It follows the same coloring skin as the OCC airbrush system and can be apply by brush, hand, or sponge (not with airbrush).MyOwnJudge - OCC TintMy shade is Y2. A pea sized amount is enough for practically full face coverage.MyOwnJudge - OCC TintIt blends right into the skin and provides gentle coverage. It is no miracle shellac for your problem areas, but then again, would the name make you think it was?

The biggest plus about this is that unlike many “tinted moisturizers” I’ve tried in the past, this one actually delivers on both ends. It moisturizes and it contains a real tint. The coloring gives your skin a sort of a light wash and does the equivalent of some light photography retouching. The moisturizing half of it leaves your skin even and made mine feel sort of like soft suede (if that makes sense).
Check out two models wearing the product:MyOwnJudge - OCC TintMyOwnJudge - OCC Tint
Fellas need moisturizing too!

Though the bottle doesn’t look amazingly large in size, it is bound to last for eons as with all things OCC. It retails for $25 and is now available on the site and at Wonderland.

OCC Nails of the Day

I’ve been slightly obsessed with beige grey (or greige) nail colors for the longest time. As soon as a chill entered the air, the color entered my shopping list. Much like purple shades, there is not one that I have come across that is identical to the other.MyOwnJudge MyOwnJudge
My polish of choice for a couple of days (as I try to do a different color every couple of days so as not to waste all that my hard earned money paid off VISA for!) is Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics polish in Uber. As you may have guessed, the left photo is with flash, and the right is without (and disregard the snafu smack dab center of the index finger).

The color perfectly matches the same name liptar (read the post about it here). The color goes on really smooth and dries super quick (especially if you take a pause in between each coat). See what other colors you can get on the site.

What’s your favorite shade for the season?

OCC Lip Tars

OCC Lip TarsAfter our quick introduction at my first Makeup Show, Obessive Compulsive Cosmetics hit the ranks of favorite products faster than any other brand ever has. The main reason for this is their innovative and extensive color selection in their lip tar and loose pigments for eyes. But many brands have large color selection for eyes, lips? Not so much.

As previously mentioned, the lip tars are not necessarily a gloss, nor a stain, their a happy mixture in between. They come in small packaging but half a squeeze lasts forever. When I wore this color to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, it lasted through far more shows than I expect and granted me a compliment from a makeup artist (when I actually thought I ate the color away!).

OCC Lip Tars
My two new colors (and appropriately my two new favorites, although – Anime will forever remain #1) are Uber, and Katricia.

On the left this is the true to life color when swatched. This was taken in direct sunlight. On the right, the photo was in the shade, but is also how the photo would take with no flash without bright lighting.

Are you obsessed?

Artist Summit Miami

PhotobucketHow could I continue and introduce brands and events, if I didn’t at least share what my new camera captured in Florida?

While smaller than the NY Makeup Show in size for commerce, the lessons and seminars were of the most value. As I continue with new knowledge and inspiration, I hope you enjoy the images of the brands that both break through into the market to continued jaw dropping reactions, as well as the brands who never fail to amaze year in and year out, from quality to customer service.

The best part of these shows for me? Realizing that this is much more than just makeup. The search for the perfect product to accentuate and work well with every person’s beauty is evident from the product selection, to the dedication from even the creators (who are almost always present at each show!).

I’ll be doing some in depth reviews and intros to some brands, while others, the pictures will be worth plenty words.

What A Lime-a Bean!

I have to admit something – every time I see a shade of Lime for nail polish, I usually snatch it off the shelves immediately. So as I was looking over my purchases for the past couple of months, I realized I have started to collect nearly every darn shade of it! What a lima bean I am! 🙂 I figured I’d share my findings and let y’all know which shades are out there and how much they go for!

To compare, I have (left to right) NYX Nail Polish in (73) Lime, OCC in Wasabi, and L’Oreal in (932) Shocking Green

Photobucket

And in real life:
Photobucket

The L’Oreal Pro polish has a shimmer to it that I couldn’t capture on photo for the life of me.

NYX Nail Polish in (73) Lime ($2.99) – the perfect shade for me – has more yellow than OCC
OCC in Wasabi ($8), – a cute vibrant color – has more green than NYX
and L’Oreal Pro in (932) Shocking Green ($4.99) – has way more green than the others, and also has shimmer

Do you like this color? Which is your fave?

On a side note, I am totally rocking the NYX on my toesies with a purple french pedi twist with a Zorro like design on one toe (I kept trying to do something creative and it was all a FAIL…)

What do you guys think? I know these lip tars will create some yummy mixes with the other colors already present in the OCC roster.

Obsessive Review

Forgive me readers for I have sinned. It has been two weeks since posting a review and I couldn’t be more apologetic! 🙂

Over with that are we?

Let’s move on to bigger and better things. And by that I mean OCC Cosmetics!

I first got to try them at the NY Makeup Show and have fallen under an OBSESSIVE
fixation on the line ever since. Look at all those colors!

What it is:

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics started out in November, 2004 with just two lip balms, cult-favorites Tarred & Feathered. Ultra-sheer black and white tones respectively, they were designed to either darken and define or lighten and prime the lips, created in response to a über-natural trend in beauty, when even the most neutral of lipsticks was considered too much color.

The premise was simple: develop a complete line of professional quality cosmetics inspired by professional makeup solutions, not only for artists but for makeup enthusiasts everywhere. To set the brand apart in an already over-crowded marketplace meant committing to innovation in both colour and texture, as well as concept and selection. What this means to the consumer: A refreshing, gimmickless approach. No false claims, no empty promises, just great makeup.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is the line for those who colour outside of theirs. For when you’re over the counterâ„¢.

Review (5 highest, 1 lowest):

Packaging: 4 out of 5 (very simple & to the point)

Price: 4 out of 5 (a little on the pricier side but well worth the money)

Quality: 5 out of 5

Overall: 4 out of 5

The product(s):

The OCC ‘loose color concentrates’super pigmented!

$10.00 each

If you can’t see: the colors are

iced
, slate (glitter),
clover
, navy (glitter)

These swatches are done dry on bare skin.

Ooh and aah all around.

And they have nail polish!

$8.00

The green one (Wasabi) is the one that I have. These polishes are great on color pigmentation/collection and color selection but aren’t as thick as I’d like them to be. They’re a bit thin and runny for my liking.

Last but not least, who can live without OCC Lip Tars?

in Grandma
$12.50 each

These go on very strong. I mean that in pigment and in amount as well. This swatch of mine is enough for three applications. If you’re looking for something high gloss – you might need to put clear gloss on top of this as it has more of a matte look.

Also great to use as a lip stain or to mix with other Lip Tars.

Verdict:

This is a great brand to have by your side. The most impressive product by them is the loose powder for eyes & the lip tars. I find it to be on the pricier side, but it is a green company, and it does need to be used sparingly as each tiny bit of this product packs a huge punch. Either way, y’all need to get to investing b/c the judge says so!

Check out QueenOfBlendingMUA’s YouTube channel to see her mix and swatch many of the lip tars & some interesting mixes on Temptalia.

And while you’re at it, check out the OCC website for a limited time 30% off discount over $30+!
