Apple vs. Blackberry/RIM

Saw this on Fabulously “Broke” In the City and had to share.

I really have to hand it to Blackberry for making their marketing work with their advertising so seamlessly. They used the same concept as the photograph by Harold Edgerton – which was a microsecond capture of the bullet piercing an apple. Edgerton was considered a “pioneer” in strobe photography – read all about it from Wiki. (yes y’all be your own researcher and know that Yaya got all the goodies for ya!) Well anyway I like how they used an actual blackberry to pierce an apple like a bullet. The things that make me happy…

A Girl Can Dream

So for my birthday (Sept 23) I want…

Drumroll please…

COUTURE!

Psych! You thought I was serious? Okay, well true – I want it, but I wouldn’t expect it like I would maybe a greeting card.

On with the expensive (a la Bergdorf)!
Marchesa

Structured Silk Organza Dress
6600$

Fringe Bow Dress
5500$

I really expected them to keep going with 7700 and all sorts of other ludicrous pricing options… but no.

And while my eyes/heart know no price. My wallet and VISA certainly do…

Some RTW fantasies…

Tiffany oh Tiffany

Heard from Coutorture & Vogue UK that the economy is creeping its way up into Tiffany & Co.’s doors. The company has reported high losses from last year and is not (surprised?) reducing prices, but rather locations and staffing.

I don’t think I ever saw a sale at Tiffany & Co., and I’m not surprised that this is how they’re handling it.

Sidenote: I work at a non-profit trade organization – we produce trade shows, etc. Some of our exhibitors say they would rather not exhibit at a trade show and use the money they save there to make sure they can pay their employee/their benefits, etc. It all of course depends on the size of the company, etc. etc. I don’t think Tiffany & Co. ever having a big redline sale will be a good look for their image either … so … that’s that!

I know everyone is trying to watch their spending and be greener to save more green, but what about you? Are you feeling the pinch? do you have stories?

Monday Tidbits

As I mourn the technological boycott in my household (both my computer and camera refuse to turn on), and as I get into the swing of the week, please enjoy these tidbits that I found ’round the web.

Project Runway’s Christian Siriano has a maternity line Fierce Mamas for Moody Mamas. PopSugar told me all about it.

Image from Inquisitr

I think the quote from the Chicago Tribune from last year, when this was still an idea makes me the giggliest. || “Siriano “thought it would be great” for a gay man to partner with two women who haven’t given birth to create a maternity line, a Moody Mamas rep told New York.” ||

my faves:

……

For all you designer on a budget gals (hello friends =]~) Fashionista snagged a Loomstate for Target lookbook. Think you will be putting any money back into the economy for these fancy pants? P.S. Target also has a cute interactive list of their designers and Design for All collections.

Model Roboto

Though I can believe where a model may cost someone $2 million, it’s a completely new show of the times we live in when the live models are being pushed out by robots. Okay, not pushed out… yet.

Some more NYMag inspiration here with the Japanese robot model – made to resemble the average Japanese woman, capable of posing and expressing herself just like us. She has slimmed down from 128lbs to 95lbs, with no plans as of yet to enter the mass market.

Do you think it would be better to have robotic models? (No catfights, less money, all look alike, etc.)

Viktor & Rolf

Fashion shows to me are all the rage when they cover every detail, and there is plenty drama (I am a big fan of couture!). Couture is what sets the tone for me and creates a show (great shows each year for me come from the likes of Chanel and Dior a la Galliano, etc.). Though I understand Ready To Wear collections need to tone it done, I prefer the drama.

Viktor & Rolf’s Parisian collection lacked no creativity as the collection was based on marble busts, and the clothes, models, set design, and of course makeup didn’t miss a beat. See the collection from NY Magazine here or the article from WWD here.

Details of contest announced!

Aren’t you excited for my contest?

I’m excited to see what will the random deciding process be (probably just a window refreshing lol) – and I will have to contact all my followers and make sure they have submitted their entry in the handy dandy entry box up top. Readers: if you are not a follower, please make sure your entry is noted above.

Like I have noted here, the contest is just my way of entering in the blog world and thanking all the people that are showing me support. There will be two winners and each one will get a goodie bag with samples and one or more full size products. Below are what will be in them, plus a few more surprises!

Close look at goodie bag one:

and at number two:

They both have perfume, lipstick, and skincare samples. There is also an Urban Decay mini black liner in both, as well as the full size items.

There are a couple more surprises in each goodie bag, b/c I couldn’t just reveal everything!

Don’t forget to join!

Another Award!/Sephora Trip

Another award from valiohh!
Thanks girl! I would write another 10 things about me… but I’m getting my Swag Attack post ready, so I’ll just redirect ya here.

Today was interesting. I got this e-mail from Sephora this past Weds & decided I couldn’t pass up free samples w/o a purchase and a makeover. Really – this was the one to-do for the day – get my tush to Sephora before 6pm! When I got there, the line for makeovers were hefty but you didn’t have to wait to get samples. So I did. (and fyi: I got my fave cashier to pony up another one instead of my 100 pt bonus sample – which I will be giving away in one goody bag in my contest – don’t forget to sign up!)

This is what I got:

Sorry I didn’t post about it sooner ladies/gents of the jury. I have yet to master blogging via iPhone…

Did you get to go?

Blog Review

How good it feels to be on a schedule sometimes. For the new readers: I post up a reader’s click list of what I found interesting during the week.

Here’s the list for this week:

You know I can go on forever. But I think I must stop here.

Check the sidebar in Shared Posts or click here for more posts I share throughout the week and periodically. Most of the time these posts don’t go up in the Blog Review as I don’t want to double post too much.

Shoot me an e-mail to MissYaya@ymail.com if you would like me to explore other/have less of some topics, or for general opinions of what’s in the blog review.

Supplies R Us/Depotting

So I’ve finally gotten down to organization again as my shopping rises and my belongings multiply. After a trip to Pearl, Staples, and eBay, I think I’m ready to take on the task.

  • from Pearl: pack of 12 storage cups (they’re for paint but they are also perfect for storing pigments, etc.), various sized containers (for powders/mixing)
  • from Staples: labeling tape, magnetic tape (w/a dispenser how efficient!)
  • from eBay: two 28 pan eyeshadow palettes (this is good for depotting and pressing pigments, plus this is the generic size that fits the Urban Decay, Milani, and MAC shadows and it’s cheaper than the MAC pro palettes $6 before s/h). This is the seller I got it from: jolieeeee

I should’ve gotten more palettes, because I got super excited and decided to make one palette strictly Milani and one strictly Urban Decay – it makes it much easier than storing each stinkin’ e/s pot by itself.

Of course, I went to YouTube for instructions. The Milani shadows are super easy to depot, they have a hole on the bottom that you can stick a tack into and it comes right out. The Urban Decay ones are the same as the MAC.

These are the two videos I used:
Milani
Urban Decay

Here’s how I did (click on images for larger pictures):

First I started with the Milani.

This was fairly easy to do. Only thing was that you had to push really hard with the thumb tack. I used Vanessa‘s advice (Nessassary Makeup) and reused the label stickers from the e/s packaging to put on the top flap of my palette so that I wouldn’t be confused about the colors or color names. So far I am organizing them by the shadow number that comes on the packaging. Once I fill up the whole palette, I might have to redo it by color. Stay tuned!

and then the Urban! Man I had so much trouble with this one. It snapped my box cutter, and I cracked my shadow twice – thankfully only at the top though so it can still be used.

This is basically the same as depotting the MAC e/s pans and the directions are the same as well. I didn’t have much luck finding too many other videos on Urban Decay e/s. The video that I saw tells you to use snippers to cut away at the pot once you separate it from the packaging, whereas most other ones tell you to use a flame – after I tried to snip away, I used a flame and realized I like that much much better.

And this is the end result:

I went a little crazy with the labeling – my labeler had a candy wrapper option!

I decided to keep these two palettes as brand specific, and will probably buy another palette to load in the rest of my shadow stragglers.

And you? Have you done any depotting/organizing recently? How did it go?

Check out the poll at the side – I want to know what ya guys think I should do about my hauls. I’ve been on a shopping frenzy this month and the Swag Attack end of month entry might be a million pages long.
