Magazine Weekend: Allure August ’09

Happy Saturday!

Magazine Weekend is fully underway!

The clip for today is from Allure magazine for August 09. This issue was super great. I was excited to read their timeline – as they always have it every month – this one was about haircuts. Always exciting about what history can tell you about our habits.

The article I found most interesting was about the trend of one arm tops and dresses. I have been studying this trend and preparing a post about it for so long, but every time I read a magazine they take my ideas right from under me! Baring Armsthe Right to Bare ArmsGiving the Cold Shoulder. All of ’em! 🙂

So then what better to do than to bring you the magazine’s genius?

If you like this tidbit as much as I did – get yourself a magazine!

MC Harem Pants

No that’s not a typo. MC Harem Pants!!

I’m always loved Harem pants, but instead of fully embracing the trend, I casually dip my nonjudgmental toes in the water as everyone dives right in.

I don’t believe you should ever immerse yourself in a trend you are not confident with. It will show – and you will look like a legitimate fool (legitimate b/c even your crazy behind will agree to such a verdict)!

So as I embark on an online window shopping adventure, to find something that’s more daring that what I have but not as foolish as Mr.Hammer… I leave you with double the inspiration for my current brave obsession.

and part deux

…But if I stumble… you won’t judge me, now will ya? 🙂

Magazine Weekend – All You June 2009

Happy weekend everyone! We are back on schedule with posting and I would love to hear how you’re liking this series.

The issue I read back to back is All You Issue 6 for June 26, 2009 with the main article of losing weight in a week on the cover.

I found the article about updating the nude face a refreshing change to all the other new and trendy looks we hear about, because this is something every gal turns to year in and year out. Here’s some advice on how to update your nude look for the times:

The magazine talked about losing weight in seven days as a form of a master cleanse that many people hear about. They gave a recipe for a drink in the morning, advised that you eat a full meal midday and that you top it off with tea in the evening. Being that this is a drastic reduction in caloric intake, they wisely recommend that this only be followed for 7 days as a jump start or a cleanse for your system. Though this always sounds like the thing that I need to do, I know myself too well to know that this will be more torture – so my fitness regimen since mid-May has been to drink uber amounts of water and to cut down on the late night food binges with some workouts to replace those. I have lost 5lbs so far and look forward to updating you on the rest!

If you feel like you have some extra pounds, or if you’re at your goal, remember that confidence, comfort, and health are the only things that ever matter. Clothes and women come in all sizes!

Also – the magazine was offering another makeup tip – the new trend of pairing gray and pink together. This is a combination that many of you have probably tried out already, but since I was enjoying the article, I decided to do an inspiration board for y’all!

What the Wind Blue In

The word is in: Blue is the new Black. Who came up with that phrase anyway? (Some window shopping for you? Why of course, click here for Bergdorf’s take on the shade’s of blue for spring in costs that will cause your wallet to go plenty shades of red.)

Not one to disappoint, here are some swatches from the blues of the nail world! (and an obligatory inspiration board to match!)

Sally Hansen Polish in Navy Baby.

It’s a little more blue-er than this but I just couldn’t make the photos work for Sally. Also – I wasn’t as happy with this polish. Though I’m an avid Sally purchaser, I am not much of a fan, and have yet to be converted. This polish was runny for me and stained my nails. That’s a pet peeve with me and nail polishes. The color still looked great though!
(Walgreens, Sally Hansen)

LA Girl Flare Nail Polish (don’t know the color! it’s not on it the pooper – can’t find it online in that color either – but I got it from Urban) This photo also came out pooptacular but the color is more true to life in the first pic w/all the polishes together.

This one is an alright pick for me. The colors for this entire line are very vibrant and always make a statement. There usually is very minimal guesswork for the color translation from the bottle to the nail, b/c it’s always true to color. If any downside, I’d say the polishes don’t last long as my others (hello Essie, OPI) but they’re affordable ($3.50 – $5) and do the job. A lot of them also accomplish a matte-like finish if you don’t do a top coat or if you have a matte top coat(does that exist ?)
(Urban Outfitters, Cherry Culture)

Milani nail polish in Bolting Blue.
Came out true to color! yay!

Has got to be my favorite right now! This polish is super easy to put on, doesn’t mess too much, is just the right mix of sturdy and liquid (does that make sense? lol) and comes in great colors. Plus it’s a drugstore easy find and pretty cheap. Hello stores? I’m coming for more!!
(CVS doesn’t have this color online, Milani, Walgreens)

Can you tell I love me some Inspiration Boards?

Back to Mac/Hot Pink

I was green and I did my Back to MAC! What did I get? I got the Amplified Lipparoo in Impassioned. It’s super bright, and super creamy, and I love it! Might make me wear lipstick regularly? We’ll see.

The bright colors got to my head and got me acting all silly. Tell me if you’d rather not witness that again 🙂

and of course an inspiration board!

EOTD/Birthdays

Hey kids

In the month of February, I have been to two birthday parties. Both for cute lil’ one year olds. One for a girl and one for a boy. I find it funny that as I think about these looks they are both using similar makeup. Of course, of course – inspiration boards as well!

Take a look and tell me what you think. Don’t forget about the contest up above y’all!

Olivia’s 1st Birthday

As you can see, I didn’t go over one eye to match the hues, so you have a bright eye and a subdued eye. Oh well – I was late!

TARDY: Fat Tuesday//Mardi Gras EOTD

So yesterday was Fat Tuesday/Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras (Wikipedia: Fat Tuesday). This was the first time that I did anything or was involved in anything. My coworker treated the whole staff to King cake (another tradition I was unawares to). She also treated us to beads (no topless acts included). The colors of the beads inspired an EOTD – below.

Milani E/S Palette in 10 Haute Couture (CVS)

Still getting used to the right way to photograph as well as edit and post, so bear with me! 🙂

All this excitement also made me create an inspiration
board of sorts for Mardi Gras. Tell me what you think.

What did you do yesterday? Do you have any Mardi Gras stories/looks?
