NYFW: Vera Wang S/S 2010

PhotobucketForgive me as I continue my fashion week coverage postweek. There was so much to cover and ooh and ahh at, that you can’t just cram it into one week. Plus – being that I’m a birthday girl this month, I figure I have all the right.

I have some juicy tidbits of what was behind the beauty inspiration and process for the Vera Wang show. The esteemed bridal designer has been everywhere from bridal salons to Simply Vera at Kohl’s, to an extension of her own label a la Marc by Marc Jacobs with her Lavender Label. The woman is also a great momma bear (or so it seems) and she is equally as great with her other baby – the namesake label.

No surprise then, that I loved it and want to share, eh?

There was a handful of chiffons and light fabrics with plenty an embellishment & on point accessorizing.

Once again, simple was the way to go for the makeup. After following Vera’s inspiration in French designer Paul Poiret, Lucia Pieroni, the color creator for Clé de Peau Beauté, decided a simple “boyish” face was the way to go. Also, making sure to have the face compliment and not contradict the look of the clothing & jewels at hand.

Photobucket

“I wanted the models to appear cool and very natural, so I created a super sheer base on the face with eye accents only, of taupe and silver.” Lucia says. “I wanted them to look healthy, but a bit supernatural.”

PhotobucketProducts used:

Face:
Luminizing Enhancer Base ($42,)
Refining Fluid Foundation ($118)

Eyes:
Eyebrow Pencil in #104/Grey ($55)
Satin Eye Color in #11/silver ($45,)
Shade #111/taupe
Satin Eye Color #104/golden (browbone)

Lips:
Extra Rich Lipstick in T4 ($65,)

As with many other collections, the makeup used mimicked the clothing, in that it was a season ahead. The runway has transcended the “preview” and has becoming the testing groud.

The Clé de Peau Beauté Spring 2010 collection will premier in March 2010 at Bergdorf Goodman and select Barney’s, Neiman Marcus and Saks locations nationwide.

Nailing NYFW

PhotobucketIf there’s anything that NYFW teaches you, is that fashion doesn’t stop at the end of the runway. The audience and crowds contributed to plenty an ooh and ahh, whether they were celebrity or not. My camera was often pointed equally to someone’s clothes and shoes, as it was to the models and garments.

I even felt the kick under my heiny to step it up and rocked out with bright lipstick for days. But today’s not about that – today’s nail day!

The pasttime that I can always commit to is doing my nails and toes. I usually do this before I do anything, as I can aid drying time that way. I also am tempted to try a new polish nearly every day (though that is half blamed on my penchant to peel my polish and half because of my constant new purchases). For NYFW, I didn’t want to be a one color girl, so I enjoyed some fancy mattes, suedes, creams, and a Konad for days.

I wanted to mix it up for Fashion Week, as I didn’t want to run through all the fabulosity with a mere one color. I tried to do a fresh nail every other day.

First one was a cream color that struck my eye immediately when I came into the Beauty Supply store. It was a sherbet melon/orange type color, and I could attest that I had none to even so much as mimic it. Plus the color was around $2. The brand was one that I never tried before, but as it’s name says itself – I was curious Quirious!

Photobucket
Though I liked this color, the polish took a bit too long to meet my expectations. The picture here is after roughly four coats. The first two coats made it look sheer as all goodness and that actually made me pout. I like the finished effect, but it takes too long to achieve it. Regardless, though… given the price, I’ll forgive em & probably showcase more of their colors soon.

Next two colors that I tried are pretty new to the nail market and I didn’t want to wait too long to try them out. After spotting them on websites and nail blogs alike, my heart was beating fast in the material sector. First one was OPI Suede in Russian Navy.

Photobucket Photobucket
The little note attached to it says the same thing as the ones on the Mattes as I posted here. They tell you not to use a base or top coat, that they wear differently than other polish, and not to use lotion.

Just to let y’all know. I haved used a base coat with all my matte polishes and that hasn’t changed anything. I have seen that the one time I followed directions and didn’t use a base coat, the matte made my nail yellow. Yaya doesn’t like that one bit.

The Suedes are fabulous guys. They have this silver underlayer that makes the top coat shine. It’s hard to explain. The pictures show you that I have a top coat on my ring finger to show you what it looks like with a top coat. I like the color both ways. I also noticed that upon removal, you can actually come across the middle layer that is invisible to the eye when applying or wearing.

Photobucket Photobucketflash on the left and no flash on the right

Coooooool. Right? 🙂 This is when I was removing it, so excuse the chip. Mattes and Suedes wear a lot more sensitive than creams, so they tend to chip at the ends within one or two days.

Next one was OPI by Sephora in Metro Chic Matte. This was an ultra cool matte, that had the best application of any of the mattes I have ever come across. Case in point: most mattes, if you apply more than two swipes on one nail in succession start to clump up. This one did no such thing.

Photobucket Photobucket

pinky has a top coat on it. Looks almost identical to Metro Chic cream

The color is a little different with flash and no flash. Neither shows the color perfectly. It is a bit in between the two if you can imagine. I tried to add a little Holo pizazz with China Glaze on the thumb and ring finger.

Photobucket

Photobucket PhotobucketI also love that this polish is extremely true to bottle color. Most of the mattes – it is just too hard to convey that.

My last mani was my last hoorah inspired by my girl Brit from ClumpsofMascara. She was tweetin’ and YouTubin’ with a fab houndstooth Konadicure, and I took her as inspiration to rock my plates out. I used a Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polish that I just got from Walgreens on sale, and used bows and fishnets to rock out the rest. I used my black and white Konad polishes and then mixed some of them to see if I could get gradient colors.

After a nail or two, I realized I was mimicking my fave Betsey Johnson mini handbag.

NYFW: Alexander Berardi

PhotobucketThe madness continues for a handful more days. I equate this craziness to the change of seasons, although at a bit more of a warped speed. You always lament the season you’re in because of how hot or cold it is, and as soon as it departs and shifts to your requests, you miss it again. So as I slowly start to expect my NYFW withdrawal symptoms, I present to you more fashion coverage.

Alexander Berardi is a new designer to me, but after a highly successful show, that notion is no more.

The show’s prevalent theme was a lot of white. For a lot of in the moment comments, I have gone to Twitter, and have exclaimed that many designers chose white as their color for S/S 2010. The clothes shifted from everyday casual clothes to cocktail party attire, with several a sequined jacket. Made me think of a fashionable Michael Jackson tribute.

After going click happy with my camera, I will try to convey most of those pictures to you.

Photobucket

As mentioned previously, I got to interview some of the people that played a major role in these shows backstage, and soon enough, you’ll see it too!

The Estée Lauder makeup was inspired by a “uptown meets downtown look” uptown girls had a bit of a bronzed look going on, and the downtown girls had a bit of a purple shadow on their lids. Additionally, the looks were inspired by the day to night shifts. Can you see it now? Hair was by my fave Bumble & Bumble. The look was a soft au natural look with slight waves. I wanted to get the head artist on camera too, but I didn’t catch up with them in time for a chat.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
To keep this runway from looking like Diddy’s white party, there were flashes of orange and coral, as well as some grays/silvers.

I was also happy to see more diversity in the models (a prequel for another post to come). Almost every fashion week, upon its conclusion, there is a headcount of all the models, to see how many of which ethnicity was used. Though designers may argue that models should mainly serve as a blank canvas for the clothes, I am a firm believer that a diverse group will actually improve the look.

NYFW: Lela Rose S/S 2010 beauty

PhotobucketTo continue the coverage of NYFW, I am breaking some posts up into pieces so that you don’t get restless scrolling. Whenever I get home and troll through photographs and footage and find that I have an abundance of material, I find it best to separate the fashion and beauty and offer more for you to read in separate posts. Either way, you got no choice! 🙂

As I already said in the fashion post, the collection was great. It was very relaxed and carefree but still prim and taken care of in every aspect. Does that make sense? Every look, from head to toe was flawless, in that it looked effortless. You know – those girls that practically skip down the street looking perfect and saying they just got out of bed? Or when you have a spiffy day and feel refreshed but did next to nothing to achieve it – just wore the tried and true, good to you. This collection was like that.

PhotobucketThe overall look was a soft but not overdone bronzed, carefree image. As Sarah from Stila describes it best, it’s like the girl who fell asleep under the sun for a bit in the summer, but she had her SPF on – so she just has a glow. Some of the products used were the Pomegranate Crush Stain, the Fandango Duo Eyeshadow, and the Cobalt Smudge Pot (all personal faves!) .The hair was slightly piecy ponytails, mastered by the best, depicting the same story that the makeup began to write. The nails? Well of course they followed suit!

PhotobucketDeborah Lippmann of her namesake brand described the mani pedis (Fashion was the shade used at the show – order here) as reverting back to matching the mani to the pedi. She reiterated that women should rely less on the go to French Mani and venture out into the broader world of polish (to which everyone agreed). The polish used in the show was just the perfect shade (described as a “Not-so-typical taupe” cream color on the website) to dig your feet into the sand and have your toes disappear into sandy oblivion.

Check out the rest of the images a la Yaya:

NYFW: Lela Rose S/S 2010 fashion

PhotobucketAnother day of the life in the tents! This show transpired on Sunday – so bear with me as I catch up. Thankfully, I did not go to any shows on Monday, so I should be reporting faster. That’s good right?

I am also going to be entering the world of YouTube y’all! I realized I had no choice as I interviewed numerous makeup artists, hair stylists, shows, and designers for your waiting eyes. These posts might come after all my posts for NYFW are concluded by tomorrow/Friday, because as we all know (or may not know) the videos take a while to upload and edit (mostly to upload though), and I don’t want the whole post to wait and suffer because of the video.

Regardless of the wait – you’ll definitely love the material. This being the first Fashion Week I participated in (I usually watch at home), I’ve met so many great people and have gathered more than enough scoop to share with y’all!

The Lela Rose show was a great one. There was a large array of (mostly) wedge shoes and apparel that was the real definition of Spring. The beauty team was a godsend with Stila for the face, Ted Gibson for hair, and Deborah Lippmann for nails. Additionally, Darphin skin care (from across the pond!) was present to keep the gals skin in line and prettified. These girls live the life during fashion week, don’t they?!

The clothes for the show were just as carefree and soft as the rest of the look. The collection contained many bright colors (but not neon) in lime-yellow, fuschia, greens, and blues. There were some pieces that really struck me & my favorites list because of how they fluttered during movement.

Photobucket
I loved nearly every pair of shoes

Photobucket
Lela’s dog Stitch, was the real start of the entire show, as he walked the backstage area, taking the rights over his kingdom. He sniffed and greeted every artist, model, worker, etc. (and he probably liked the catering team the most). I actually wholeheartedly expected him to walk the runway.

he was too cute and fast for my paparazzi ways!

NYFW: Solerra Fashion Show – Perfectly Healthy Tan

Photobucket On Saturday, Sept 12th, I had a great opportunity to see a fashion show with the Solérra tanning mitt. I was already familiar with the product as it was a part of the NYC Bloggin’ Beauts, and it sounded pretty genius.

It’s a one time mitt that you use for self bronzing. In this economy, we all strive to be our own personal assistant, with the goal of stretching a dollar and saving a penny. The mitts are available as an exfoliating mitt and as a bronzing mitt. So if you don’t want to add a subtle sun kissed look, you can still scrub a dub yourself to soft skin.

What I like most about this is that they must be geniuses. No, really. You know when you see something and wonder why it took so long for someone to concoct such a common sense idea? The Solérra mitts are it. The mitts have a barrier inside, to keep the product from soaking your palms (one of the main reasons people opt to have other people take care of them – to prevent the embarrassing neon palms!). Plus they’re one time, and add a subtle glow to your skin. You can’t over do it. You won’t use too much or too little product. Read on to see the pics from the show and to hear more about the product.

PhotobucketAiming to become Fashion Week’s “go-to sunless tanning line” for top designers and models, Solérra® will sample its NEW Instant Bronzing Mitt to Fashion Gallery attendees and provide helpful “hands on” tips on how to get the perfect-looking tan in between runway shows. The Solérra® Instant Bronzing Mitt, with patented Invisicare® technology, delivers a fast drying, instant color application with a natural, sunless tan developing in four to six hours.

PhotobucketInvisicare® technology is a patented, sunless polymer delivery system designed to bond active ingredients to the skin while the tan develops and lasts seven to ten days. The Solérra® Instant Bronzing Mitt has a plastic liner on the inside that keeps sunless tanner on your body and off your hands. The infused mitt application also allows you to apply self-tanner evenly to your face and body without the mess or fuss of lotions or creams—perfect for “glowing on-the-go” during a hectic Fashion Week schedule!

The picture up top features the swimsuit designers who kept those tans covered up in the appropriate places! 🙂 The blondes with the maxi dress and the lace sleeve dress (second from right and last on right) are the President and CFO of Sunless Beauty Ltd., the makers of the Solerra brand. Everyone up there looks like family!

The fab Lisa from America’s Next Top Model was the opener and closer for the show. Check out some pictures, pay close attention to their glows and don’t be shy – clicking on them will let you see them bigger!

The closing swimsuit was my favorite of all time.
Photobucket Photobucket
There were plenty of fit and fabulous bodies both on the runway and off. Of course, girls being girls, I spotted plenty a guilty girl (myself included) giggling when male models started strutting past us.

[edit] After the initial posting time, Solérra® won the Best Self Tanner Award from Shecky’s! Congrats![edit]

I snagged some mitts to give away, so tell me how you stay tan but healthy for a chance to win! Plus as part of the giveaway, a mitt or two will be available as a prize as well.

Fall Makeup for 2009

PhotobucketIn the midst of all this Fashion Week madness, one can’t deny the change in the air. The streets aren’t as warm anymore, there are more sleeved fashions paraded about town, and scarves are coming out.

To me, scarves are the epitome of Fall and colder weather in general. When scarves came out as a trend for summer as well, you could find me looking all bewildered at everyone and their momma because it didn’t make sense. Scarves are an accessory with both an aesthetic and physical function. It serves as a great neckpiece, converts great into a shawl, or even a bow tie, but it also has the potential to keep you warm.

Something else to usher in the fall? Makeup! Now, I’ve briefly covered trends for the fall, and will definitely revisit the topic, but I’d like to share what some companies are ushering in for the new season. As we all know – seasons come with different colors, and wearing neons and bronzer may not be the most appropriate look for when the thermometer starts to dip.

Check out some of the other new products for fall in makeup and nails below. These include great ones from fan (and my) favorites from Too Faced, Stila, Benefit, Smashbox, Korres, etc.!

NYFW: Monarchy Show S/S 2010

Photobucket I’m only 2 days behind on coverage (sarcasm)! This post is a quick review of the Monarchy show that was in the tents.

The main tent housed over a thousand fashion junkies ready to see the next big thing. Eric Kim, the designer of Monarchy did not disappoint with a majority of white and khaki colors. I know the words themselves don’t sound too exciting, but I loved it. The shows that I’ve seen so far have embraced white garments with graceful draping, that makes a girl want to hand over her VISA and cover her eyes.

I saw some lovely paperbag waists that I wanted to rip off the models, and the male models rocked a hip but preppy sweater and khaki look.

Of course, I can’t just leave it at that, the celebs front row were a fab bunch as well. Shannon Elizabeth, Angela & Vanessa Simmons (who looked uber cute btw), Janice Dickenson, Amerie, etc. Let’s just say the models weren’t the only ones looking their best. After attending this show, I got the kick in the butt I needed to take an extra half hour for primping prior to departing the house. I’m sure y’all have seen my Tweets on Twitter saying I felt like a diva the days after. (Bright lipsticks do wonders…)

Check out the official Mercedes Benz video of the runway styles!

What do you think? Like it?
