China Glaze Fall 09 Retro Diva – Let’s Cruise

Remember when I praised the new phenomenon of Twitter and told you how many companies are using it as a tool to reach out to each and every one of you? Well, if you haven’t smartened up and opened an account yet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for!

Case in point: China Glaze was having a daily giveaway of their Retro Diva nail polish collection, and luck would have it that I won on one of the days! Of course, as soon as it came I was excited to share with y’all.

Now this collection has two mini sub-collections. They are called “Let’s Cruise” and “Get Down Tonight.”

I decided to follow suit and separate the swatch posts into two as well, so that I don’t overdo it with the pictures.

Colors left to right:
Stroll, Thunderbird, Drive-In, Street Racing, Free Love, Cruisin’

Stroll

Stroll is such a gorgeous berry color. This made me think of raspberries so much that my stomach started to growl in response to my thoughts. The glitter in this polish is so hard to capture – but here was my attempt:

Can you see all those little flecks?

Cruisin’

I have always been a fan of China Glaze for their smooth application and variety in colors. If you follow me on twitter, you will notice that a lot of my daily polish TwitPics feature them as well.

Also – these polishes are amazingly true to bottle color, check out the two here:

Thunderbird on left and Drive-In on right.

The only qualm I had with this collection was that it seemed more like a fall harvest and metallic color combo than it reminded me of Retro Glam – but you know what? I bet if I did some research I might just be wrong. So watch out for part two to see what happens and for more swatches from this collection!

What do you think of this collection?

Review: Nailene French Tip Pen Kit (long post)

Remember when I was hootin’ and hollerin’ over the NYC Bloggin’ Beauts? Well the goodie bags included many a product that warrant a review. One of them being the Nailene Fench Tip Pen Kit.

What it is:
Being true to it’s title. This nifty combo includes 2 polishes (Hard & Healthy French Manicure Base Color and Acrylic Topcoat) 1 White French Tip Pen, and 42 tip guides.

On the box:

In just two simple steps, achieve that perfect salon French Manicure with our easy-to-use pen. Also great for pedicures and perfect for retouching! Mistake proof, precision application with fabulous results.

Review (5 highest, 1 lowest):

Packaging: 4 out of 5

Price: 5 out of 5 ($8.99)

Quality: 5 out of 5

Overall: 4 out of 5

Instructions on the box:

Actively shake pen. Press tip onto a protected surface for 30 seconds until tip is saturated with polish. When the tip is completely covered with polish, you are ready to use the pen.

Optional: Apply tip guides across curve of nails to separate tip area.

Step 1: After prepping pen, apply two coats of Nailene’s French Tip White to nail tips. Let dry. If tip guides were used, peel off gently.

Step 2: Apply one or two coats of Nailene’s Hard & Healthy base color over entire nail.

A top coat may be applied for extra shine.

I just had to put the products into a Y lol. Forgive me the corniness 🙂

The process:

I cut off the ends on the strips and used them on smaller nails (be green w/your mani!)

My Verdict:
When Nailene agreed to participate in the Bloggin’ Beauts, I was overjoyed. When they sent everyone this kit – I couldn’t be more excited. I always think that every company puts their own spin on an item. Let’s be honest, there are only so many “original” products. A french mani is probably the most popular manicure style, but there is a whole universe of variations. Lucky for me – I didn’t try this one yet!

This is a great mani kit. I really like the fact that it came with strips for ease of use and the pen was actually very easy to use. I have used a lot of french manicure pens and a lot of them are unkind to your nails. They never get the line right, and frankly, you’re better off using a brush for painting walls. This french manicure pen was comfortable and got the job done quickly.

I was originally going to say that I wasn’t a fan of the one choice of color in this kit but then I realized – all of these products are sold separately as well. If you don’t agree with the color, the other Nailene products still fit the bill. Furthermore, my main concern was the amount of strips available. The strips – though easy to use, require an attempt or two to master. If you look closely at the pictures, you will notice that the pinky and ring finger aren’t too neatly done. That was because I didn’t press the strip down tight enough and polish leaked through. To remedy the situation doesn’t take much – pay closer attention the first two or three times you use them! After that you’ll be a pro!

After trying out this kit, I am impressed with the simplicity but efficiency of the product and would recommend that y’all try this out. It’s certainly budget friendly – so why not?

I’m also really excited about the black french manicure pen!

NOTD – What’s It Matte to Zoya?

Forgive my clever-tastic titles – I am full of ’em.

As promised, there will be short posts in between other ones to keep your eyes readin’!

Last week I let y’all know about Zoya having a Twitter promotional purchase. Three free polishes!

Being that I had my eye on so many, I had to get just one more.

Top row: Pinta, Harley
Bottom row: Posh, Loredana (mattes)

ZoyaPosh

It took me a total of 30 minutes between entering my house, opening the package and giving myself a mani and I am nowhere near disappointed. How great does this matte color look?

Check out Zoya for wayyy more polish goodness & don’t forget to get it together and get with their twitter (tell them MyOwnJudge sent ya!), so that if you missed the last tweet-purchase, you won’t be indicted twice for the same crime! 🙂 Oh yeah, don’t forget the Zoya blog neither!

Essie + J. Crew

J.Crew seems to be doing fantastically (enjoy new words my friends) ever since they got the M.Obama endorsement. ‘What recession?’ must be the phrase of the company for this year. I say this with no animosity whatsoever.

I have always been a fan of J.Crew, though not always did I have the funds to prove as much. Going to outlets and checking out their sales was how Miss Yaya enjoyed them in high school.

As time passed, and credit card offers poured in, I can safely say there were times when I fell off the wagon and bought things for prices my thrifty and cost-conscious self would balk at. That’s not the point though is it? The point was that J.Crew is a fab store/brand. And now they have a collabo with another fab brand. Essie.

I’m here to tantalize y’all with two new colors for Essie that J.Crew has created.

The colors:

One of Kind (not a typo)

Eternal Optimist

They are $8.00 each and are available in limited stores.

Implementing Changes – NOTD

I noticed a lot of blogs have been posting shorter posts for more interactive communication with their readers in between longer posts. The more I saw, the clearer it got that this was a great idea.

So without further ado, I bring to you the new upcoming features to pop up frequently to keep your reading eyes entertained:

Face of the Day(s) b/c I don’t wear makeup every day y’all(FOTD),
Nail of the Day(s) (NOTD),
and many more!

Right now y’all must see my bright version of a DIY french mani.

Photobucket Photobucket

I know it’s not healthy to talk yourself up – but really… I am really happy with the outcome!

Some of you may not believe me when I say bright colors, but this is certainly proof.

Photobucket
That’s my bright fuchsia/hot pinkish iPhone cover… Believe me now??

These are the full polish swatches/bottle pics for the two bright buggers 🙂

Photobucket Photobucket

Oops- didn’t realize the size of these pics was so different. Pink Flame on the left and Orange Revenge on the right. The orange is a little less … radioactive looking in person but they are both pretty true to color. Don’t you love it!?

Zoya’s not a Twit!

With all the new fangled technological devices and applications, companies are finding different ways to reach their customers.

Let’s admit it – receiving an e-mail newsletter is a bit old – especially being that we are often caught mass deleting due to the huge mailboxes full of Sale this and %10 that. … Ok – just me then…

Well y’all are in luck Twitterati – Zoya is being super duper kind and letting you choose three free nail polishes. Three. free. Wait a minute – is that a play on words with their polish being 3Free??

Photobucket

Here’s the catch: the code is on Twitter. (It’s a thank you for building up to 5000 followers). It’s also only open to the US. Check out the details on their blog here.

If neither of those options suit you, I still suggest you head over and follow Zoya because they always have great deals on Twitter and plus – they’re one of the few companies that respond to everybody – ain’t that great customer service??

P.s. Don’t forget to confess to the judge just what ya got 😉

Nailed again!

Last time I admitted to getting nailed, it was at Sephora.

Well – this time I had the pleasure to make it out to the KO Knockout event at Henri Bendel. They were debutting new colors Concrete (gray) and Pool (turqouise), and had drinks, and manicurists at hand.

Photobucket

The craze now more than ever is matte polishes and KO Knockout is all about matte.

Photobucket

The colors left to right:
Concrete, Pool, Flatte, Liberty, Karen, Calamine
Ox, Liberty, Karen, Calamine, Powder, Pool

Photobucket

Fancy drinks. I have no idea what was in it, but it was pretty and good. 🙂

Photobucket Photobucket
My manicurist was a KO employee – Julia. she had Flatte on her own nails.

Photobucket

My polish of choice: OX

Photobucket

oooo! matches my shoes!

Since it’s matte, and curiosity killed the cat (and satisfaction brought it back) I just had to know what it was like with a clear top coat in a cream as well… Trust and believe it was the cat’s meow!

Sally Hansen HD Nails

This was the first Sally Hansen line that I got fully. The colors are super bright and lovely. I swatched every single one of them about two months back and accordingly forgot to post thereafter.

Isn’t that how it always works?

Here’s how they looked on my digits:

01- Cyber

02- Blu

03- Pixel Pretty

04- Hi Def

05- Lite

06- Digital

07- Three D

08- Hi Res

There are two different lighting in the picture and the one on the right is the one that is 98% true to color.

How is my nail posing doing? I’m trying to perfect it but it’s hard work!

Click here to check the page for the HD colors and ingredients.

After seeing that Sally Hansen was having a sweepstakes to win these exact polishes though, I thought it would be most fitting to post now. The contest is going on from 07/08/09 – 09/15/09. Check out the page for official rules.

Blue & Lite were my faves – tell me which ones are yours after you enter the sweepstakes!

Nailed at Sephora

This post is totally PG rated y’all. Don’t panic!

Sephora is having an event in NY.

Check out the times from Beauty and the Blog.

I went yesterday (don’t even get me started on the difficulties of posting) and got my nails done in Hi-Def. My nails were done by the wonderful lady in the peach colored shirt ducking in the picture. She was shy 🙂

The cute little event on 150 Broadway. I called in the morning to book and appointment and was told the event was only walk-in and then came in only to find out the appointments were first priority and I can go in between spots… But anyway…

Hi-Def made me think of this candy case. 🙂

Watcha think?

What color are you rocking?
